Full-stack Engineer 5

Description

This role is for a Full-stack Software Engineer 5 in a large group of engineers who build and modernise the company's technology to solve complex business problems in a collaborative, iterative way.

You will be central to a major technology transformation at the company, where the work is driven by real customer needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead a set of varied technology projects and a group of developers who build distributed microservices and full-stack systems that meet the company's regulatory obligations.
• Work with digital product managers to deliver resilient cloud-based products that give millions of Americans better control over their finances.
• Keep up with technology trends, test and learn new tools, take part in internal and external tech communities, and mentor engineers across the company.
• Work with Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, open source relational and NoSQL databases, Docker and Kubernetes container orchestration, and a range of AWS services.
• Give technical direction across several teams, shaping system architecture and the long-term technology roadmap.
• Own the design and delivery of large, distributed or cloud-native systems that must be highly reliable and fast.
• Work with architects and product leaders on platform roadmaps and shared services.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a quantitative field such as statistics, economics, operations research, analytics, mathematics or engineering.
• At least 6 years of software engineering experience. Internships do not count.
• At least 3 years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), cloud productivity tools, or virtualisation technologies.
• Preferred: Master's degree in computer science or a related field.
• Preferred: 9+ years coding in three or more of Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C and Scala.
• Preferred: 5+ years contributing to open source frameworks.
• Preferred: 5+ years working with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
• Preferred: 5+ years building synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
• Preferred: 4+ years working with databases and database management systems.
• Preferred: 4+ years with AWS, GCP, Azure, or cloud productivity or virtualisation tools.
• Preferred: 4+ years with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code and automated testing frameworks.
• Preferred: 4+ years using Git-based version control such as Git, GitHub or Bitbucket.
• Preferred: 4+ years troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments.
• Preferred: 3+ years mentoring senior engineers and developing technical teams.
• Preferred: 2+ years using observability to find and fix performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
• Preferred: 1+ year leading architecture design reviews and shaping enterprise-wide technical standards and methods.
• Preferred: 1+ year setting and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.
• Preferred: 1+ year putting observability and reliability practices in place at scale.
• Preferred: Experience using modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
• Preferred: Experience influencing technology strategy at portfolio or business unit level.
• Preferred: Experience using interactive AI tools for productivity beyond basic code completion.
• Preferred: Experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large technical initiatives.

Conditions

The company will consider sponsoring a new qualified applicant for work authorization in this role.

Full-time base salary in New York, NY is $250,800 to $286,200 per year. Part-time pay is prorated to the agreed hours.

Pay in other locations follows that location's range, and the exact salary is stated in the offer letter.
