Full-stack Engineer 4 (Bank Tech)

The company is looking for full-stack software engineers who enjoy working on complex business problems in a collaborative, inclusive and iterative delivery setting.

The role sits at the centre of a major transformation across the company, and the engineers hired will be drawn to open source frameworks and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead a set of varied technology projects and a team of developers who build distributed microservices and full-stack systems, delivering solutions for regulatory requirements.
• Build cloud-based products with digital product managers that give customers strong experiences and help millions of Americans improve their finances.
• Set standards for design, development and operational excellence across Agile teams and give them technical direction.
• Work with architects on service boundaries, integration patterns and reusable frameworks.
• Use Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, open source relational and NoSQL databases, Docker, Kubernetes and a range of AWS services.
• Find areas to improve, refactor where it is needed, reduce technical debt and raise system performance.
• Shape long-term technology strategy by assessing new tools and practices, in an environment where teams build and own what they ship.
• Keep up with technology trends, try and learn new tools, take part in internal and external technology communities, and mentor other engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related quantitative field such as statistics, economics, operations research, analytics, mathematics or engineering.
• At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience; internships do not count.
• At least 2 years working with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure), cloud-based productivity tools or virtualization technologies.
• Preferred: master's degree in computer science or a related field.
• Preferred: 7+ years coding in more than two of Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C and Scala.
• Preferred: 3+ years working with databases and database management systems.
• Preferred: 3+ years with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud-based productivity tools or virtualization technologies.
• Preferred: 4+ years contributing to open source frameworks.
• Preferred: 3+ years with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
• Preferred: 4+ years building synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
• Preferred: 3+ years with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code and automated testing frameworks.
• Preferred: 3+ years using Git-based version control such as Git, GitHub or Bitbucket.
• Preferred: 3+ years troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments.
• Preferred: experience with modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
• Preferred: 1+ year mentoring engineers and supporting their professional development.
• Preferred: 1+ year using observability to find and fix performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
• Preferred: experience with interactive AI tools used for more than basic code completion.
• Preferred: experience leading cross-functional engineering work or large technical initiatives.
• Preferred: experience setting and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.

Conditions

Full-time annual base salary in McLean, VA is $197,300 to $225,100 for Full-stack Engineer 4, as of the posting date.

Candidates hired in other locations get the pay range for that location, and the exact offer amount appears only in the offer letter.

Part-time pay is prorated according to the agreed number of regular hours.
