Description

The role sits on the Account Acquisitions team within Bank Technology, which handles the first contact a consumer or small business customer has when deciding to bank with the company.

The team is building a flexible platform for fast experimentation with adaptive, personalized and low-friction customer experiences.

You will build that platform hands-on, help speed up AI-native engineering, and let the team test ideas quickly while still releasing with confidence.

The company wants people who are driven to do ambitious work in new ways, push boundaries, and enjoy the process.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a set of varied technology projects and a team of developers experienced in distributed microservices and full-stack systems, building solutions that address the company's regulatory requirements.
  • Stay current on technology trends, test and learn new tools, take part in internal and external technology communities, and mentor other engineers.
  • Work with digital product managers to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that create strong experiences for millions of Americans seeking financial empowerment.
  • Use languages such as Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript and TypeScript, open source relational and NoSQL databases, container orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes, and a range of AWS services.
  • Set technical direction across Agile teams, defining standards for design, development and operations.
  • Work with architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns and reusable frameworks.
  • Find areas to improve, refactor where needed, and help reduce technical debt and raise system performance.
  • Shape long-term technology strategy by evaluating new tools and practices, in an environment where teams both build and run what they create.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related quantitative field such as statistics, economics, operations research, analytics, mathematics or engineering.
  • At least 4 years of software engineering experience. Internships do not count.
  • At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
  • A master's degree in computer science or a related field is preferred.
  • Preferred: 7+ years of coding experience in more than two of Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C and Scala.
  • Preferred: 3+ years working with databases and database management systems.
  • Preferred: 3+ years with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud-based productivity tools or virtualization technologies.
  • Preferred: 4+ years contributing to open source frameworks.
  • Preferred: 3+ years with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
  • Preferred: 4+ years building synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
  • Preferred: 3+ years with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code and automated testing frameworks.
  • Preferred: 3+ years with Git-based version control such as Git, GitHub or Bitbucket.
  • Preferred: 3+ years troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments.
  • Preferred: experience with modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
  • Preferred: 1+ year mentoring engineers and supporting their professional development.
  • Preferred: 1+ year using observability to find and fix performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
  • Preferred: experience with interactive AI tools used for more than basic code completion.
  • Preferred: experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large technical initiatives.
  • Preferred: experience setting and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.
