Description

The company makes media brands and their audiences are reached across the globe: 30 brands reach nearly 130 million people each month.

The team mixes journalism, storytelling, technology, data and commerce, and is working out what comes next for digital publishing.

The role sits inside the engineering group that builds the systems behind advertising, audience insight and revenue.

Responsibilities

  • Build backend services that handle large volumes of ad event and audience engagement data through dependable ETL pipelines.
  • Create and run systems that ingest, transform and enrich data from ad servers, supply-side platforms, data management platforms and other third-party tools.
  • Write APIs and internal tools for ad delivery, campaign measurement, troubleshooting and revenue reporting.
  • Build and support front-end applications and internal operations tools with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React and Node.js.
  • Design storage, retrieval, normalization and processing approaches that scale on Google Cloud Platform and AWS.
  • Work with engineering, analytics and ad operations colleagues to deliver accurate, privacy-compliant and reliable data for reporting and other downstream uses.
  • Watch applications, APIs, data pipelines and integrations, fix problems and tune them for speed, scale and reliability.
  • Help with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines and current software practices, and apply privacy-by-design principles to every system.

Requirements

  • At least 3+ years of full stack development experience, mainly in backend work, data engineering or an equivalent background.
  • Working knowledge of Python, SQL and JavaScript.
  • Hands-on experience building applications with React and Node.js.
  • Practical experience designing, building and maintaining ETL workflows, data pipelines, APIs and backend services.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform or AWS, including serverless technologies.
  • Familiarity with data warehouses like BigQuery, Redshift or similar.
  • Experience with digital advertising technology, such as Google Ad Manager, header bidding platforms, OpenRTB or related ad tech systems.
  • Comfort using AI-assisted development tools for coding, testing, debugging, documentation and infrastructure work.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and modern engineering practice.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with careful attention to performance, scale and reliability.
  • Ability to work well with engineering, analytics, product and ad operations teams.
  • Understanding of privacy rules, including GDPR and CCPA, and of designing systems with privacy in mind.
  • Preferred: experience with data governance tools, business intelligence platforms such as Looker or Tableau, real-time data processing frameworks, machine learning pipelines or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions.
  • You must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer. The company cannot sponsor an employment visa or take over an existing sponsorship.

The role is based in New York City and follows a hybrid schedule of four days per week in the office.

The base salary range is $110,000 - $140,000 USD.
