Field Engineer

Description

The company designs and delivers mission critical voice and data systems for customers, sometimes operating them as managed services.

You will join multi-disciplined project teams in the post-sales phase and may support several projects at once, depending on their size and complexity.

There may also be a need to help the pre-sales and services organisation.

Responsibilities

• Manage and/or carry out the implementation of communication solutions and services that meet the needs of customers, end users and operators.
• Take part in Factory Acceptance Tests and coordinate the technical side of them.
• Install, integrate, test and commission the company and third-party solutions, working with support from suppliers or vendors where needed.
• Find, investigate and fix technical issues during project implementation.
• Run on-site acceptance tests and coordinate their technical aspects.
• Keep technical documentation up to date and manage technical changes.
• Report on project status and communicate progress.
• Develop your own skills through an agreed training plan, and share your experience and knowledge with others.
• Coordinate with customers, partners and subcontractors on project deployment and best practice where required.
• Make sure projects meet the company quality, health and safety standards.

Requirements

• Fluent English and German.
• At least 3 years of professional engineering experience in telecommunication systems, IP transport networks, IT, field, service, technical support or equivalent.
• Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Juniper Network Certified Internet Associate (JNCIA) or a higher certification.
• Good knowledge of operating systems and applications, such as Unix, Windows and virtualisation technology.
• Good knowledge of radio frequency work, including base station TX/RX testing, mobile and portable radios, and RF test equipment.
• Hands-on field skills such as wiring, soldering and physically installing equipment, along with commissioning and testing.
• A valid driving licence.
• Willingness and availability to travel up to 80%, within and outside your country of residence.
• Willingness to obtain the security clearance needed to enter customer sites.
• A university degree in telecommunication, computer, electrical/electronic engineering or a related field is preferred but not required. The company values skills, experience and proven ability over formal qualifications.
• Experience with one or more of the following is an added advantage: the company mission critical communication technology such as DIMETRA and WAVE/Kodiak; video security solutions; command and control systems; voice logging technology; LTE RAN and EPC integration and testing.

Conditions

Travel is over 50% of the time.
