Description

The company builds robot hardware and AI that let robots work in more places, starting with factories and warehouses where most sites still have no robots at all.

Its robots are manufactured at scale and run as a connected network that pools what the whole fleet learns to train better robot AI.

The company is based in Watertown, MA, was founded at MIT, and works across the full stack: hardware design and manufacturing, model training, direct work with customers of every size, and fleet maintenance across the United States.

The team is more than 160 people, including researchers, engineers, technicians, operators, and sellers.

The role leads the teams that write the software for the robots, the cloud that coordinates them, the internal tools, and the simulation and research code behind future robots. New teams are forming and existing ones are growing.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, develop, and lead a team of software engineers, including tech leads.
  • Take ownership of a part of the system from design through deployment to the fleet.
  • Set priorities and make technical decisions, or make sure the right person on your team does.
  • Coordinate with the hardware, research, and operations teams your software depends on, since robotics software tends to break at the boundaries between them.
  • Answer for your system in production, not just in the code repository.
  • Each team owns a piece of software that must work on real robots in real facilities. Some managers write code daily while others focus on people and coordination with strong tech leads; the team is matched to the manager's strengths.

Requirements

  • You were a strong engineer before moving into management and have led a team of several engineers.
  • You have shipped software that ran on or alongside physical systems.
  • You have owned a production system and been accountable when it failed.
  • You can review a design and spot where it will fail.
  • Experience with robotics, autonomy, or other systems with hardware in the loop.
  • Experience with simulation, sim-to-real transfer, or machine learning infrastructure.
  • Experience with systems that carry uptime commitments to customers.
  • Experience working alongside a research team.

Conditions

The base salary range is $190,000 to $300,000, depending on experience.

The company expects its benefits to grow over time and continues to invest in ways to support employees at work and beyond.

The company is an equal opportunity employer.

Benefits

  • Health insurance fully covered by the employer, with no premium to pay.
  • A managed 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Unlimited PTO and all federal holidays off for full-time salaried staff; hourly staff get 16+ days of accrued paid time off and 1.5x pay on federal holidays.
  • In-office meals and team social events held throughout the year.
