Engineering Manager - Australia

The team is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Australian software development team, bridging global strategy and local delivery.

You will work as a senior technical leader and player/coach, mentoring engineers, applying Domain-Driven Design, and staying close to the hard technical problems that drive the business.

You will work across product, sales and marketing to deliver quickly, balancing system stability with innovation.

The role is with an Australian affiliate of the company.

Responsibilities

• Lead the team in Agile ways of working and build a strong, high-performing group.
• Split your time between people management and hands-on technical delivery, moving between team growth and complex troubleshooting as needed.
• Keep the platform and the business compliant and certified.
• Oversee improvements to system administration, network engineering, software and system architecture, and virtualisation and database platforms.
• Oversee functional and technical specifications for project work with the BA and Scrum Master.
• Review and oversee that security systems (ISMS), code, policies and processes stay current and maintained.
• Run and report on periodic security, redundancy and disaster recovery tests.
• Oversee upgrades and upkeep of the tech stack, development infrastructure and QA environments.
• Use initiative, integrity, domain knowledge, clear communication and diplomacy to deliver business outcomes.
• Mentor and develop people who do well in strong teams.
• Give high-level strategic input across the company when required.
• Handle complex support investigations and fixes when needed.
• Work with the LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP), Percona and/or MySQL, GitHub, Terraform and Jenkins.

Requirements

• At least 3+ years leading development teams in a SaaS environment.
• Self-motivated, with a deep understanding of development tools and processes.
• Experience running an agile team and holding it accountable to milestones and outcomes.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and creative problem solving.
• Proven ability to balance stability, performance and technical debt against fast product roadmaps.
• Proven use of Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles to build modular, scalable SaaS architectures with clear boundaries and low coupling between teams.
• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Solid fundamentals in cloud computing (AWS), networking and physical hardware.
• Good understanding of information security and compliance requirements, such as ISO 27001 and SOC2, in a SaaS business.
• Comfortable working with international teams.
• Able to code in PHP.

Conditions

This is a hybrid role based in the Brisbane, AUS office.

The hybrid model combines remote work with time in the office for in-person collaboration, live training and team time.
