Description

The company employs more than 83,000 people across five continents, including over 7,500 in the UK, working in defence, space, aerospace and digital security.

The team sits within the ISR UK business, which supplies electronic warfare, radar and uncrewed aerial systems equipment to the UK armed forces and exports these capabilities worldwide.

This is an embedded systems and software integration role on an edge-computing system built around NVIDIA Jetson, where you will develop and integrate the software.

The company promotes from within first. You can explore other domains and sites, choose a technical or leadership path, and build an international career, with training and mentoring from senior specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Build, configure and maintain software on NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano platforms.
  • Work day to day in Ubuntu Linux on embedded hardware.
  • Set up boot, system services, device configuration and application start-up.
  • Manage system resources.
  • Find and fix problems that arise where hardware and software meet.
  • Integrate and configure hardware peripherals, among others.
  • Move the software onto new Jetson carrier boards and other changed hardware, identifying differences in peripheral interfaces and hardware configuration.
  • Reconfigure the software and operating system when the underlying hardware changes.
  • Write software interface specifications.
  • Feed sensor and peripheral output into existing C++ algorithms and processing pipelines, building the interfaces between acquisition software and application code.
  • Use NVIDIA CUDA where it fits to develop, integrate and optimise software, and understand how the Jetson GPU architecture affects performance.
  • Apply cyber-security principles to embedded Linux, keeping services and interfaces to the minimum needed.
  • Build integration and diagnostic tools, write test procedures, and test new hardware against the existing system.

Requirements

  • Be comfortable working from hardware documentation, schematics, interface specifications and manufacturer documents, not only existing software abstractions.
  • Be comfortable working across the hardware and software boundary, not only at application level.
  • Hold British nationality only, and obtain Security Clearance (SC) with no caveats.
  • If you do not already hold SC, you must go through vetting, obtain it and maintain it before you start. Holding it already is an advantage.
  • Full SC eligibility generally requires 5 years of UK residence. In some cases, 3 years of UK residence within the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
  • Guidance on vetting is available on the UK Security Vetting pages of GOV.UK.

Conditions

The role is based in Reading, Bristol or Crawley, with Crawley preferred, though the company is flexible on location.

Travel to Ukraine is part of the role. Training and briefings are provided.

The company treats everyone equally in opportunities, pay and conditions.

Benefits

  • Annual bonus, with development-focused targets.
  • A strong pension contribution.
  • Private healthcare and medical insurance.
  • Relocation support if required.
  • Training, development and career support, plus help with academic study and professional memberships.
  • Options to buy or sell annual leave, a cycle to work scheme, employee discounts, a paid volunteering day, and a stocks and shares scheme.
  • Some benefits depend on the role.
