Description

The company is building advanced defense systems at an early stage and is moving quickly, so it needs people who take ownership and can turn ideas into working capability.

This EHS Engineer role supports manufacturing and test operations at the Midland site, covering energetic material processing, mix and cast work, equipment and process safety, and testing.

The job is mostly in the field and combines daily program execution with technical hazard evaluation. You will work alongside manufacturing, test, engineering, and facilities teams to find hazards, design practical controls, and make sure EHS requirements are actually followed.

You will move between the floor and technical discussions, such as inspecting an area, supporting a test, investigating an incident, writing a JHA, or assessing hazards for new processes and equipment with engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Give hands-on EHS support every day across manufacturing, mix and cast, test, maintenance, and facilities, staying visible in operating areas.
  • Find workplace and process hazards and work with engineering and operations to set up engineering, administrative, and procedural controls.
  • Lead or support risk assessments such as JHAs, PHAs, equipment and process reviews, and readiness reviews for new, changed, or higher-risk work.
  • Evaluate EHS risks for new equipment, process changes, commissioning, and first-time operations, and confirm controls are in place before work starts.
  • Run and maintain core EHS programs: LOTO, machine safety, PPE, respiratory protection, hazard communication, electrical safety, hot work, fall protection, material handling, and emergency preparedness.
  • Walk the operations regularly to check that controls work, spot new risks, and follow corrective actions until they are closed.
  • Assess hazards in energetic manufacturing and testing and put in place the requirements set by EHS and Energetics Safety reviews.
  • Lead or support incident and near-miss investigations, find root causes, set corrective actions, and confirm they work.
  • Support industrial hygiene work, including exposure assessments, sampling, reviewing results, and putting exposure controls in place.
  • Handle daily environmental compliance: hazardous waste, chemical inventories, spill prevention, inspections, and records.
  • Help the site meet ATF explosives rules, covering inspections, explosives storage and inventory, records, day-to-day compliance, and corrective actions with EHS and Energetics Safety leaders.
  • Create and deliver EHS training and coach employees, technicians, engineers, and supervisors in the field.
  • Improve site procedures, JHAs, work instructions, and other EHS documents based on operations and lessons learned.
  • Be the onsite EHS contact who solves routine problems alone, knows when specialist input is needed, and escalates serious risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, occupational safety, EHS, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of EHS, safety engineering, manufacturing safety, process safety, or similar work in manufacturing, aerospace, defense, chemical processing, or another industrial setting.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA rules and common industrial EHS programs.
  • Experience running hazard assessments, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action tracking.
  • Able to understand manufacturing processes, equipment, and technical documents and turn hazards into practical controls.
  • Strong problem-solving, organization, and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working in the field and in outdoor test environments.
  • Able to work full-time onsite in Midland, Texas and to support operations outside normal business hours when needed.
  • Able to meet U.S. export control requirements (ITAR or EAR).
  • Preferred: experience in aerospace, defense, energetic materials, chemical processing, propulsion, or other high-hazard manufacturing.
  • Preferred: experience supporting mix/cast, energetic material processing, propulsion manufacturing, or test operations.
  • Preferred: experience with structured hazard methods such as PHA, What-If, FMEA, or similar.
  • Preferred: familiarity with process safety, Management of Change, or equipment commissioning.
  • Preferred: experience with industrial hygiene, hazardous waste, and environmental compliance.
  • Preferred: familiarity with ATF, NFPA, or DoD explosives safety requirements.
  • Preferred: OSHA 30, HAZWOPER, ASP, CSP, or similar training or certification.
  • Preferred: experience in a startup or fast-scaling manufacturing environment.

Conditions

Full-time, onsite in Midland, Texas, with support outside normal hours when required.

This position may require access to classified information or restricted U.S. Government sites, systems, or information, as decided by the company and/or applicable U.S. Government requirements. If designated, employment may depend on obtaining and keeping the required U.S. Government security clearance or other government authorization and meeting any citizenship or other eligibility rules that apply.
