The company is building high-mobility spacecraft platforms for national security, civil, and commercial missions, and works quickly with frequent iteration.
The team needs an EGSE and avionics test software engineer to build automated test software, EGSE software, and hardware/software integration test infrastructure for spacecraft avionics on Ranger missions.
You will create reusable test applications, instrument interfaces, and automated test sequencing used to verify avionics hardware and software. You will work with avionics, flight software, electrical, systems, and test engineers to build dependable test infrastructure, track down hardware/software interaction problems, and make sure results are accurate, repeatable, and defensible.
The role suits an engineer who likes working across software and hardware, solves hard integration problems, and builds robust test systems that feed into flight readiness and mission success.
Responsibilities
Write automated test software and EGSE software for spacecraft avionics development and verification.
Design reusable test applications, instrument interfaces, device drivers, test sequencing, and data acquisition tools.
Write software that controls lab instruments and talks to embedded avionics hardware.
Build test frameworks that keep hardware interfaces, test logic, configuration, and data handling separate, so they are easy to maintain and extend.
Write requirements-based verification tests covering positive and negative cases, boundary conditions, failure scenarios, and fault injection.
Support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and hardware/software integration testing of spacecraft avionics.
Write automated functional and performance tests for flight computers and other avionics hardware.
Find the root cause of problems across hardware, firmware, software, communication interfaces, and test equipment using a systematic approach.
Verify and validate your automated test software and test equipment so results are accurate and reliable.
Set up test logging and data collection that makes results traceable and reproducible across hardware and software configurations.
Work with avionics, flight software, systems, electrical, and test teams to plan verification approaches and resolve integration issues.
Take part in code reviews and help with software development, configuration management, and continuous integration.
Work in a fast development environment where speed, technical quality, and mission success all matter.
Requirements
A bachelor's, master's, or PhD in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, aerospace engineering, or a related technical field.
Experience writing automated test software in LabVIEW, Python, C/C++, or an equivalent language.
Experience writing software that controls lab instruments and communicates with embedded hardware.
Experience building reusable, maintainable automated test applications, frameworks, or test infrastructure.
Understanding of software verification, including requirements-based testing, boundary conditions, negative testing, and fault injection.
Experience confirming that automated test software and test equipment work correctly and give reliable results.
Familiarity with version control and configuration management tools such as Git.
Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Nice to have: experience building automated test systems or EGSE for spacecraft, aerospace, defense, or other complex embedded systems.
Nice to have: experience building test frameworks with modular device drivers, reusable interfaces, automated test sequencing, logging, assertions, and configuration management.
Nice to have: experience communicating with hardware over Ethernet, TCP/UDP, RS-422/485, SpaceWire, SPI, I2C, or similar protocols.
Nice to have: experience testing asynchronous hardware and handling timing, synchronization, timeouts, and communication errors in software.
Nice to have: experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and simulation environments.
Nice to have: experience automating power-on, functional, or acceptance testing for flight computers or other avionics hardware.
Nice to have: experience with automated fault injection and checking fault detection, isolation, and recovery behavior.
Nice to have: experience using lab instruments, protocol analyzers, data acquisition systems, or similar test equipment.
Nice to have: experience writing unit tests, simulated instrument interfaces, or other ways to validate automated test software.
Nice to have: experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, automated testing, code reviews, and configuration management.
Nice to have: understanding of embedded firmware and flight software architectures.
Nice to have: experience working with spacecraft avionics or flight hardware.
