Description

The Hardware organization builds custom AI silicon and the system-level solutions around it, including the Jalapeño custom silicon program. The Silicon & Systems team pairs hardware and software engineers to design and build AI infrastructure across architecture, RTL, verification, physical design, validation, deployment and production.

The role sits in the infrastructure group that supports silicon development. You will work with design verification, physical design, emulation, formal verification and systems software teams to build reliable, automated workflows that speed up hardware development.

The work is hands-on and collaborative, and it touches the whole hardware lifecycle. You should bring deep expertise in at least one infrastructure domain, solid software engineering fundamentals, and a desire to grow your impact across the platform.

Responsibilities

  • Work with hardware teams to learn how they develop, find bottlenecks, and build tools, services and APIs that automate work and raise engineer productivity.
  • Design, build and run large regression systems covering scheduling, execution, result collection, triage and reporting, with attention to performance, reliability and reproducibility.
  • Build and maintain automated pipelines for infrastructure, developer tools and cluster configuration so deployments and tests are safe and improve over time.
  • Design, provision and run cloud infrastructure and HPC clusters, tuning scheduling, capacity, reliability and cost for heavy silicon workloads.
  • Build data pipelines, databases and monitoring that show regression results, infrastructure health, resource use and engineering efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure faults, improve monitoring and alerts, automate recovery and build systems that are resilient and easy to maintain.
  • Work directly with RTL, verification, physical design, emulation and software engineers to keep improving the infrastructure behind silicon development.

Requirements

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including proficiency in Python or a similar language and experience building reliable automation, tools or infrastructure services.
  • Deep technical knowledge in at least one infrastructure area, such as Linux or HPC environments, cloud, CI/CD, storage, networking or EDA workflows.
  • Experience designing, deploying and running cloud infrastructure, preferably on Azure, and familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or Bicep.
  • Strong Linux systems knowledge covering processes, filesystems, networking, permissions, performance troubleshooting and administration.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with tools such as Jenkins, Buildkite, GitHub Actions or similar.
  • Comfort debugging complex distributed infrastructure problems, finding root causes and building lasting fixes.
  • Enjoy working closely with engineers to understand their technical needs and turn them into practical, scalable infrastructure.
  • Ownership of systems from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring and ongoing improvement.
  • Sound technical judgment, clear communication and a collaborative approach to unclear engineering problems.
  • Curiosity about hardware development and a wish to grow across infrastructure, silicon design workflows and developer productivity.
  • Nice to have: experience supporting ASIC or semiconductor development environments, including EDA, design verification, physical design, emulation or formal verification.
  • Nice to have: experience running large HPC clusters or workload schedulers such as Slurm.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with compute farms, regression frameworks, build systems and hardware toolchains.
  • Nice to have: experience with enterprise identity systems such as Entra ID, OpenLDAP, FreeIPA or SSSD.
  • Nice to have: experience designing and running relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including schema design, migrations, query tuning and backups.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with distributed system components such as message queues, caching layers, artifact storage and backend services.
  • Nice to have: experience with high-performance storage, data movement optimization or large-scale compute infrastructure.
  • Nice to have: experience managing EDA license servers, license utilization or other shared hardware development resources.
