Description

The company builds and improves tools and services for government and community partners, and has done so for more than ten years.

The portfolio runs from early tools still being tested to mature products, and serves both the institutions that adopt them and the people who use them.

As the first dedicated product marketer, you will lead go-to-market work with Product, Outreach, Program, and Marketing & Communications, and decide where the function should focus first.

You report to the Senior Director of Product Management and work across a matrixed delivery organization. The role is hands-on, and it includes building the practices, partnerships, and eventually the team that lets product marketing scale with the portfolio.

The company values leaders and teammates who work hard, respect each other, and care for one another.

Responsibilities

  • Set go-to-market strategy and positioning for each product, with separate approaches for government and institutional partners and for the clients the company serves directly.
  • Write and guide plain, accessible messaging for people who face complex systems, often with little time, little trust, or no prior experience with these services.
  • Choose target audiences and shape strategy around the barriers that stop them from adopting the products.
  • Own the go-to-market plan for each product, covering audience, channels, messaging, and sequencing, and adjust it as the product moves from validation to scale.
  • Coordinate launches so product readiness, messaging, and distribution happen together and on time.
  • Build proof points such as case studies, usage data, and client and partner stories that show reach and impact.
  • Create toolkits, templates, and core messaging that Outreach and other frontline teams can adapt across channels and partner types.
  • Direct enablement effort toward the partners and channels with the greatest reach and impact.
  • Define success for each go-to-market effort and decide what must be learned at each stage.
  • Design and run experiments on messaging, channels, and segmentation, and use adoption, engagement, and conversion data to change strategy.
  • Work with paid, search, and SEO channels well enough to brief, direct, and assess specialists or contractors where those channels are used.
  • Partner with Product, Outreach, Program, Marketing & Communications, Philanthropy, Client Success, and Data Science to turn strategy into results.
  • Build trust and shared context with stakeholders across a function that is still maturing.
  • Bring a product marketing view into conversations of every size, from early product strategy through execution.
  • Manage contractors or agencies that support demand generation and other specialist work, set clear expectations, and review quality so external work matches the strategy.
  • Take on other duties and ad hoc projects as the organization requires.

Requirements

  • You are a senior product marketer who has built a go-to-market function from the ground up and can both set portfolio strategy and do the hands-on work yourself.
  • You build trust quickly, turn ambiguity into concrete progress, and move easily between government-facing and client-facing audiences.
  • At least 8 years in product marketing or a closely related function, including senior roles where you worked with significant autonomy.
  • Experience managing direct reports, leading contractor or agency teams, or both, and willingness to build and manage a team as needs change.
  • Proven experience developing positioning, messaging, and go-to-market strategy across the full product lifecycle, from early validation to scale.
  • A record of turning strategy into shipped, measurable results.
  • A record of setting priorities and growing a go-to-market function with deliberate sequencing of investment.
  • Experience writing or guiding plain-language messaging for people in complex systems or under-resourced communities.
  • Working knowledge of paid, search, and SEO acquisition channels, enough to direct and evaluate specialists.
  • Experience defining success metrics, designing experiments, and turning data into strategic recommendations.
  • Sound judgment in ambiguous, matrixed organizations, and credibility with senior stakeholders.
  • Strong writing skills, including adapting one message for clients and for government or institutional partners.
  • Curiosity about AI tools and a commitment to using them responsibly and effectively.
  • A strong commitment to making government services work well for the people who need them most.
  • Bonus: experience in nonprofit, government, or another sensitive, highly regulated consumer area such as healthcare, financial services, or benefits, especially where privacy and consent rules limit standard marketing approaches.
  • Bonus: familiarity with CRM and partner-tracking tools such as HubSpot or Airtable, and interest in improving how they are used.
  • Bonus: Spanish-language fluency or experience overseeing multilingual campaign materials.
