The company's Space Sector is hiring an Engineering Director 2 for the Glide Phase Interceptor program in Chandler, AZ.

You would be the senior technical leader on a large, complex, multi-disciplinary program that supports national security capabilities for a broad group of stakeholders.

You report to the Vice President, Central Region Engineering.

As Chief Engineer, you hold overall responsibility for the program's technical execution and integrity. You guide daily technical work across the whole life of the product, from early concept work and architecture through requirements, integration, testing, risk management and operational support. The emphasis is on rigorous systems engineering, performance assessment with high-fidelity modeling and simulation, and close work across functions and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the GPI Chief Engineer, leading technical and process decisions across the program.
  • Own the program's technical direction, system integrity and architecture choices so they match business, mission and customer goals.
  • Build and maintain an integrated technical baseline in which requirements, design, verification, validation, risk, configuration and mission assurance stay aligned over the full lifecycle.
  • Work with program management, functional leaders and customer stakeholders to set technical baselines, control technical risk and deliver capable solutions within budget and on time.
  • Direct technical decisions for major reviews, trade studies and design milestones, and chair or co-chair key technical boards where appropriate.
  • Build lasting relationships with customers and internal stakeholders, and represent GPI engineering in executive and customer forums.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with 20+ years of professional experience, including people management; or a master's degree with 18+ years of professional experience, including people management.
  • Track record leading multi-disciplinary engineering organizations, integrated product teams or complex technical programs that span several engineering disciplines.
  • Experience setting technical strategy, technical baselines, engineering plans and execution approaches for complex hardware, software and integrated systems.
  • Experience managing engineering performance against cost, schedule, technical performance, risk, quality and delivery commitments.
  • Experience leading and developing engineering leaders, technical staff and cross-functional teams.
  • Preferred: active U.S. Government Secret security clearance, with the ability to obtain and keep required program access.
  • Preferred: advanced degree in engineering, science, systems engineering, engineering management or a related STEM field.
  • Preferred: experience as a Chief Engineer, Engineering Director, Chief Architect, Technical Director or comparable senior technical leader on complex aerospace, defense or space systems.
  • Preferred: experience with end-to-end systems engineering, including requirements development, architecture, design reviews, verification and validation, technical risk management and configuration management.
  • Preferred: experience leading engineering organizations on space, aerospace, defense, mission-critical or safety-critical products and programs.
  • Preferred: demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders, customers and external stakeholders on high-consequence technical and business decisions.
