Description

The company builds grid software, including ADMS and DERMS, that utilities use to manage renewable generation, battery storage and distributed resources on the electricity grid.

This is a student internship in the Grid Software business, sitting where cyber security, software engineering and critical energy infrastructure meet. You will help deploy and secure the platforms that run the digital grid.

The internship is intended to move you from theory into hands-on work implementing secure software in DERMS, the technology that manages distributed energy resources.

The role is remote.

Responsibilities

  • Build security into CI/CD pipelines and across the software lifecycle.
  • Help configure and implement utility-grade software.
  • Work with senior engineers to spot risks and automate routine operational tasks.
  • Get hands-on exposure to how software platforms connect with operational technology (OT) and IT environments.

Requirements

  • Commit to at least 6 months: 3 days per week during semester, or 5 days per week during semester breaks.
  • Be currently enrolled in Computer Science, Engineering or IT with a minimum WAM of 75%. Students enrolled in a double degree in these fields will also be considered.
  • Strong interest in DevSecOps, DERMS and grid-management technology is essential.
  • Prior cyber security work experience, from vacation work or an internship, at a utility, electricity, energy or critical-infrastructure organisation would be an advantage.
  • Optional: experience with Git, CI/CD, Python/Bash, Docker/Kubernetes or cloud platforms.
  • Optional: knowledge of OT/ICS security or SCADA systems.
  • Application: submit your CV and a statement of no more than 1 page covering your utility or energy cyber security experience (if any), your interest in DevSecOps and grid modernisation, and your availability (for example 3 or 5 days per week) and career goals.

Conditions
