Description

The company makes cloud video platforms for video security, business intelligence and loss prevention, and has done so for over 20 years.

Its on-site and cloud products are used in schools, hospitals, banks, retail stores and other facilities worldwide, sold through certified service providers. The company is a subsidiary of a parent company.

The team is hiring a Device Engineer to port the next generation of recording products onto new physical devices and system architectures.

You will work across hardware and software to build reliable, secure, high-performance systems for the cloud-managed video platform.

The role suits engineers who enjoy hard problems close to the hardware, like working with others, and want their work to be seen. Deeper experience than listed here is welcome, so apply even if you exceed the criteria.

  • Build and maintain board support packages, platform frameworks and embedded Linux applications in shell scripting and C/C++.
  • Keep the automated build system working across several hardware deployments.

  • Work with product, hardware, mechanical and QA teams to design and produce embedded Linux devices that meet company needs and standards.
  • Review code against company, department and team standards.
  • Assess development requests and choose the most efficient way forward.
  • Interpret varied input requirements and plan how to meet each one.
  • Explain technical insights and complex data concepts clearly to departments and stakeholders.
  • Communicate across teams to deliver high-quality embedded systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical or computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of embedded software development on Linux platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with board support packages, Linux kernel and drivers, and hardware bring-up.
  • Strong cross-compilation skills with frameworks such as Yocto, Gentoo and buildroot.
  • C/C++ experience building scalable, efficient software architectures and designs.
  • Strong data analysis skills, turning findings into actions.
  • Quick to pick up new technologies and practices.
  • Sharp critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • A quality-focused, test-first mindset.
  • Clear communicator and good team player.
  • A plus: experience with cryptography and specialized embedded processors.
  • A plus: experience with GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD systems.
