Description

The company builds AI platforms and has already developed a high-performance RISC-V CPU from scratch.

The team is made up of technologists who want to build the best AI platform they can, and it is still growing and hiring people at every level of seniority.

The role improves the software that runs on next-generation RISC-V platforms, covering datacenter and agentic AI workloads.

The work sits between software runtimes, compilers, CPU microarchitecture and RISC-V silicon.

You will learn how to optimize software stacks from the application and runtime down to the CPU microarchitecture and silicon.

You will learn how RISC-V Vector, Matrix and custom ISA features can speed up real datacenter and AI workloads.

You will learn how runtime, compiler, memory and concurrency choices affect performance at datacenter scale.

You will learn how to build automated, AI-assisted workflows that keep profiling, analyzing, changing and benchmarking software.

You will learn how real workload behavior and software optimization opportunities can shape future CPU hardware design.

Responsibilities

  • Find performance bottlenecks in Java, Python, PHP, Node.js, Lua, Go and Rust workloads.
  • Build software, compiler, runtime and hardware-aware optimizations that raise throughput and efficiency and lower latency.
  • Bring up major runtimes and tune them.
  • Profile real-world applications and investigate memory and concurrency behavior.
  • Explore optimizations that use RISC-V Vector and Matrix capabilities and custom instructions.
  • Use AI-assisted development and automated optimization workflows to speed up performance engineering.
  • Shape the RISC-V software ecosystem and the design of future company CPUs.

Requirements

  • You enjoy digging into runtimes, compilers, applications and CPU microarchitecture to find out why software is fast or slow.
  • You have hands-on experience optimizing software on RISC-V or another modern CPU architecture and understand the hardware/software boundary well.
  • You can profile complex systems, find bottlenecks, form hypotheses and refine optimizations based on data.
  • You are interested in agentic AI development and in using AI tools to automate profiling, coding, benchmarking and optimization.
  • You collaborate well and can work with compiler, runtime, systems software, hardware and performance modeling teams.
  • You hold a Master's or PhD in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field, with strong experience in performance optimization, computer architecture, compilers or systems software.
  • You have hands-on experience with runtime or compiler optimization, such as OpenJDK/JIT, LLVM, GCC, V8, Python or similar systems.
  • You have a strong grasp of CPU performance, memory hierarchies, concurrency, garbage collection, vector/SIMD optimization and RISC-V architecture.
  • You are an expert with profiling and analysis tools such as Linux perf, runtime profilers, QEMU, tracing tools and performance modeling environments.
  • You program well in Java, Python, C/C++ and RISC-V assembly and can work across several software layers.

Conditions

The role is fully remote and based in North America.

Candidates are assessed for the level that fits them, and the offer matches that level, which may differ from the level in this posting.

Pay ranges from $100k to $500k, including base salary and variable compensation targets.

The actual offer depends on experience, skills, education, background and location.

The offer depends on your eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled technology under the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and related laws, including EAR Country Groups D:1, E1 and E2, which apply to people in the U.S. and abroad.

Depending on citizenship or permanent residency status, the offer may require a prior license from the U.S. Commerce Department or another federal agency.

If U.S. export laws make employment impossible, the offer will be withdrawn.

The company is an equal opportunity employer.
