Description

Want to use data, machine learning and AI to tackle real business challenges and help drive the energy transition? If you like turning complex data into solutions with measurable value, this Data Scientist role sits in the Data & Analytics team.

You will build data science and AI solutions that support the B2C goals of the company, serving both sustainable customer offers and business results.

The team builds data-driven solutions for marketing and sales, customer journeys, service and digitisation, product development and sustainability advice for customers.

Your work centres on solving complex business problems with data and machine learning. You join early, from framing the problem and choosing approaches through to building, testing and deploying models on our analytics platform.

Depending on the problem, you use machine learning and, where it fits, Generative AI. You judge with colleagues whether a solution reaches the required quality and value before it goes live, and you weigh reliability, privacy and human oversight.

You work day to day with business stakeholders, Analytics Engineers and Data & ML Engineers. You explain your methods and findings clearly and refine your solutions based on feedback.

The B2C Data & Analytics department has three business domain teams. Each combines an Analytics Translator, Analytics Engineers and Data Scientists, supported by Data & ML Engineers from IT. You will also take part in the Data Science Community of Practice, where colleagues share expertise and improve how the group works.

Responsibilities

  • Take data science work from initial idea to production, using machine learning and, where suitable, Generative AI to address business problems and deliver measurable value.
  • Build and assess AI and machine-learning solutions for quality and robustness, accounting for privacy, bias and human oversight.
  • Write production-grade, reusable and tested Python, using Git, code reviews, automated tests and CI/CD.
  • Partner with Data & ML Engineers to make solutions reproducible and to support their deployment, versioning and monitoring.
  • Work with business stakeholders and colleagues from other disciplines, turning technical approaches and results into clear insights and improving solutions from feedback.

Requirements

  • You are solution-oriented and enjoy pairing analytical thinking with practical problem solving. You take ownership of your work and collaborate across disciplines.
  • You are curious about new methods but critical: whether classical machine learning or Generative AI, you want to know how a solution works and whether it adds value.
  • You can explain models and results to people without a technical background and you adapt your work readily based on feedback.
  • You hold an academic degree with a strong quantitative focus, such as Mathematics, Physics, Econometrics or a comparable field.
  • You have worked as a Data Scientist or in a closely similar role, applying machine-learning methods to real-world problems.
  • You communicate clearly in written and spoken English. Dutch is a plus.
  • You are comfortable working in an agile setting.
  • You have written production-quality Python and applied machine learning, probability and statistics to real problems.
  • You have worked with large, complex datasets and understand distributed computing.
  • You have practical experience with Generative AI, such as LLM APIs, prompting and structured outputs, and know how to evaluate controlled AI workflows.
  • You have worked with DevOps practices such as CI/CD, code reviews and Git.

Conditions

Salary depends on your education and relevant experience, and ranges from €4,862 to €6,077 gross per month, excluding holiday allowance, for 38 hours per week.

Hybrid working is the norm: at least 50% of your time is spent at the office, with the exact pattern set by what suits the role and team.

The company is keen on a healthy work-life balance and keeps looking at how to support it as an employer.

Applications must be submitted in English by 11 November. An online assessment is part of the process.

Pre-employment screening is part of selection, scoped to the role and carried out by DISA Global Solutions AB.

The company seeks diversity and gives all employees equal opportunities regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, gender identity, religion or belief, disability or sexual orientation.

Benefits

  • 8% holiday allowance, a 4.5% end-of-year payment, and profit sharing of up to 3.5% of annual salary based on the results of the Dutch business unit.
  • Either an NS Business Card for commuting or a travel allowance of €0.23 per kilometre, up to 50 kilometres one way, plus a €3.05 home-working allowance.
  • 20 statutory vacation days, plus 5 additional days through My Budget My Choice.
  • 2 additional non-statutory days as compensation for overtime, from scale 9, through My Budget My Choice.
  • 5 vitality days and 13 ADV days when working a 40-hour week on a 38-hour contract.
  • My Budget My Choice lets you buy or sell extra vacation days, buy a bicycle, or have your budget paid out monthly.
  • An ABP pension, with the company contributing 70% and you 30%.
  • A collective health-insurance discount with Zilveren Kruis Achmea.
  • 4 hours of paid leave a year for volunteer work through the company's foundation.
  • An education budget for your personal development.
