Description

The Database Provisioning team builds tools that safely run and manage the databases in the company's data centers, including its PostgreSQL-based database, RaptorDB.

Operations and support staff use the team's CLI tools, and so does every automation running in those data centers. The goal is solutions that stay reliable without interruption at very large scale.

The team values ease of use, quality, scale and customer feedback. It works across distributed groups in the US and Europe, and newer members are mentored to build their skills.

Responsibilities

  • Build and extend the in-house provisioning framework that deploys, configures and runs RaptorDB (PostgreSQL) and MariaDB in production, along with the snow CLI used by operations and automation, and Dojo, the fleet-wide service for scheduled maintenance and monitoring.
  • Take well-scoped features from design through coding, test automation and delivery, with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and take part in code and design reviews.
  • Automate routine work across a large database fleet, from configuration management to monitoring and remediation.
  • Help investigate production issues such as database crashes, backup or restore failures and performance problems, and learn to find root causes using logs, stack traces and system data.
  • Work with operations, support and partner engineering teams to clarify requirements and turn their feedback into improvements.
  • Write documentation and runbooks, and share what you learn with the team.

Requirements

  • You have a solid base in data structures, algorithms and object-oriented design.
  • You have hands-on Linux experience and want to understand its internals.
  • You know relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL, MySQL or MariaDB, and want to learn how they behave in production.
  • You solve problems well and are curious about how systems fail.
  • You communicate clearly and work well with colleagues across PT, ET and CET time zones.
  • You have programming experience in Ruby, Python, Go or a similar language, plus shell scripting. Ruby is preferred but not required, and engineers with Python or other scripting backgrounds pick it up quickly.
  • You have used source control and CI/CD systems such as Git and Jenkins.
  • You have used AI in your work, or thought carefully about how to bring it into processes, decisions or problem-solving, such as through AI-powered tools, workflow automation, AI-driven insights, or AI's likely effect on the field.
  • Typically you hold a bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of related experience, or an advanced degree with no experience, or equivalent work experience.
  • Nice to have: Puppet or another configuration management tool.
  • Nice to have: experience with database backups, replication or high availability.
  • Nice to have: Kubernetes.
  • Nice to have: AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Windsurf or Cursor.
