Staff Machine Learning Engineer_Voice AI Engineer

Description

You will join the team building the core voice platform, which covers audio intake, conversation handling, speech output, connections to APIs and self-hosted voice AI models, and the voice harness.

The platform runs large voice AI distributed systems across several regions and data centres.

Responsibilities

• Help shape, build and roll out the core parts of the voice platform.
• Work with product managers to learn customers' use cases and technical obstacles, then build toward their success.
• Build and ship large-scale voice AI distributed systems at scale.
• Write clean, scalable, reusable code and uphold engineering standards such as peer review and unit testing.
• Improve SRE practice by turning operational needs into requirements for software tooling.
• Mentor colleagues and spread knowledge across voice AI engineering disciplines.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Hands-on experience building distributed voice AI systems at high operational scale.
• 4+ years integrating models into LLM-based applications, without training them.
• 4+ years developing in Python, Golang, Java, or similar languages.
• 2+ years building agents through prompt engineering and developing LLM-driven experiences.
• Experience running highly available distributed workloads on Kubernetes using a DevOps approach.
• Critical thinking about applying AI to work processes, decisions, or problem-solving, such as using AI-powered tools, automating workflows, reviewing AI-driven insights, or assessing AI's potential impact on the function or industry.
• Experience building with AI tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Windsurf.
• Considered an asset: experience building software for compliance and security in regulated environments.

Conditions

Base pay for this location is $176,100 to $308,200. This is a guideline only, and individual total compensation varies with qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.

Pay also includes equity where applicable, plus variable or incentive compensation and benefits.

Compensation depends on the geographic location of the role and may change with work location.

Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings incentive structure.

Work personas (flexible, remote, or required in office) are assigned based on the nature of the work and work location. To determine eligibility, the company may measure the distance between your primary residence and the nearest office using a third-party service.
