Description

The company behind the PlayStation brand is looking for a Data Engineer for its Infrastructure Business Operations team, to build the data foundation for understanding the cost, utilization and economics of the global infrastructure.

The infrastructure covers data centers, compute, storage, networking, Kubernetes, public cloud, SaaS and other technology services. You will work with engineering, product, finance, FinOps and operations teams to build a data platform that joins these sources into one trusted view of how infrastructure is used, what it costs, and how those costs feed into product economics.

You will own the work end to end: deciding which questions matter, identifying the data needed to answer them, building reliable and accessible pipelines and models, and turning the results into insights for better decisions.

The company is a subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation. It delivers hardware and network services to more than 100 million people and creates entertainment under the PlayStation brand, which launched in 1994.

Responsibilities

  • Build scalable pipelines that ingest, transform and combine physical infrastructure, engineering system, financial and product data.
  • Develop cost and allocation models that link infrastructure consumption to workloads, services, features and products.
  • Work with engineering teams to understand complex infrastructure and pinpoint the telemetry and instrumentation needed to measure it.
  • Analyze infrastructure cost, utilization, capacity and unit economics to inform key business decisions across teams.
  • Create trusted metrics, datasets, dashboards and analytical tools for engineering, product, Finance and leadership.
  • Set up strong practices for data quality, testing, observability, documentation and reproducibility.
  • Explore new data sources and technologies that improve how the infrastructure is understood and run.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years in a similar role, building production data pipelines, data models and analytical systems.
  • Advanced SQL and working knowledge of Python or another data-oriented programming language.
  • Hands-on experience with modern data platforms and tools such as Snowflake, Databricks, dbt and automated ETL or ELT pipelines.
  • Strong analytical skills: you check the data yourself, question results and turn findings into clear conclusions.
  • Experience with large, complex datasets across several systems and levels of granularity.
  • Ability to turn vague business and technical problems into measurable requirements and scalable data solutions.
  • Experience with, and willingness to learn, current analytics and visualization tools.
  • Familiarity with teams and systems that run on both on-prem and cloud infrastructure.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with global engineering, product, Finance and business teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science.
  • Experience with AWS, Google Cloud or Azure billing and usage data.
  • Experience with Kubernetes telemetry, networking or data center operational data.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure cost allocation, unit economics, capacity planning, forecasting or FinOps.
  • Experience linking technical infrastructure consumption to product or business metrics.

Conditions

The company conducts background checks at the offer stage for all new employees, which may include criminal background checks for some roles, and will need to process personal information for them.

The company aims for an inclusive workplace and encourages everyone to apply.
