Description

You will lead the design, delivery and growth of the company's enterprise data platform. You manage a team of data engineers and stay hands-on with data modeling, pipeline design and business automation.

You sit between business stakeholders and engineering, turning their needs into designs built in Google BigQuery and dbt, integrations run through SnapLogic, and oversight of the Tableau environment.

In your first 30 days you settle into the team, hold 1:1s with your direct reports, start leading the twice-weekly stand-ups, take over sprint planning from the backlog, map current workflows and begin learning the tech stack.

By the first 60 days you take over stakeholder engagement and requirements gathering for new projects and build practical fluency across the full tool stack.

By the first 90 days you move from daily execution to shaping the strategic roadmap and process improvements, owning each stakeholder relationship and project from intake to delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor data engineers through regular feedback, technical coaching, performance reviews and career development.
  • Own the team's Jira board and run Agile/Scrum ceremonies: backlog grooming, sprint planning, estimation and delivery tracking.
  • Foster technical excellence, accountability, clear documentation and continuous learning.
  • Design and maintain the dbt transformation layer so models stay modular, tested and well documented.
  • Run the Google BigQuery enterprise warehouse, tuning performance, managing cost and setting access controls.
  • Build and monitor ELT pipelines and automated workflows in SnapLogic and REST APIs that connect core SaaS and enterprise systems.
  • Run proofs of concept to assess emerging technologies and architectural changes.
  • Administer Tableau, covering server and site governance, user permissions, licensing, performance monitoring and content promotion.
  • Set and promote standards for data modeling, Git version control, CI/CD and technical documentation.
  • Keep data accurate, reliable and secure across ingestion and reporting layers.
  • Work with cross-functional business leaders to turn strategy into technical roadmaps and actionable user stories.
  • Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and check data deliverables with business partners.
  • Maintain SOPs and data dictionaries to build data literacy across the organization.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in data engineering, analytics engineering or enterprise data solutions.
  • 2+ years of formal people management, or proven experience leading engineering squads, running sprint planning and managing Jira backlogs.
  • Production experience designing, tuning and running a cloud data warehouse, with Google BigQuery or Snowflake preferred.
  • Advanced dbt skills, including building and deploying projects with macros, tests, incremental models and documentation.
  • Hands-on experience building integrations on an enterprise iPaaS such as SnapLogic, Workato, Fivetran or Boomi, plus third-party REST APIs.
  • Hands-on experience administering a modern BI platform, with Tableau user management, data sources and site administration preferred.
  • Ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical partners and document complex end-to-end data workflows.
  • Strong ownership of both the technical roadmap and the people delivering it.
  • Comfort working across platform architecture, integration engineering and BI administration.
  • Judgment on when to get hands-on and when to delegate, coach and let the team lead.
  • A collaborative, documentation-first approach that spreads knowledge beyond any one person.
  • Preferred: Python or another scripting language for data pipelines and automation.
  • Preferred: Certifications such as dbt Certified Developer, GCP Professional Data Engineer or Tableau Certified Administrator.
  • Preferred: Background in data governance and security compliance frameworks (SOC 2, GDPR) and data quality monitoring.
  • Preferred: Experience integrating AI/LLM tools into data workflows, such as connecting platforms via Model Context Protocol (MCP) or building with Claude or Gemini APIs for automation, documentation or analytics.
