Description

The company has spent more than 25 years on computer graphics, PC gaming and accelerated computing. It now uses AI to push computing into a new phase, where its GPUs power computers, robots and self-driving cars that interpret the world around them.

The team is hiring a Software Engineer, Data Systems in Santa Clara, CA. It builds software tools that help technical users make sense of complex computing systems. This role centers on the storage, data model and query path that turn large volumes of profiling and telemetry data into information for engineers and automated analysis, with a focus on measuring AI workload performance across GPU data centers.

Responsibilities

  • Build the storage, data model and query layer for engineering performance data, covering ingestion, joins, storage and delivery at GPU data center scale with low latency.
  • Enrich profiling records with context from hosts, schedulers, configuration, logs and storage, so each record carries the identity and dimensions needed to compare jobs, machines, versions and time.
  • Own the data contract with the teams that produce the data: define it, version it, and move consumers through changes without breaking them.
  • Balance data quality, query latency, storage cost and retention, and confirm gains in efficiency, latency and resource use with measurements.
  • Handle late, duplicate, missing or inconsistent data, and make its limits visible to downstream users.
  • Create the data API and generated evidence views that people and automated analysis rely on, with access controls, resource limits, and stable behavior under heavy load or failure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years of software engineering experience, including building and running data pipelines, storage systems, analytical services or similar software used by others.
  • Production experience with large data volumes, such as billions of events per day or petabyte-scale stores, plus low-latency streaming pipelines that handle backpressure, replay and duplicate delivery correctly.
  • Sound judgment on event identity and ordering, data transformations, and how errors or gaps affect results.
  • A performance investigation you can walk through: the baseline, measurements, competing explanations, the change made, the verified result and its trade-offs.
  • Experience defining and versioning a data contract with a producing team and guiding consumers through a format change.
  • Ability to debug across component boundaries and validate changes through code review, tests and independent measurements, including when automated development tools are used.
  • Clear communication about design choices, observed behavior and uncertainty, with care for user data and operational constraints.
  • Proficiency in C++, Python and SQL.
  • Ways to stand out: hands-on work with telemetry, time-series data or analytical query engines such as ClickHouse, and with columnar formats such as Arrow and Parquet.
  • Ways to stand out: familiarity with profiler data, including trace record formats, sampling semantics, symbolization, clock domains and aligning events recorded on different machines.
  • Ways to stand out: experience with high-cardinality schema design and measured gains in memory use, storage efficiency or query performance while preserving correctness.
  • Ways to stand out: a track record of making data processing easier to inspect and recover when inputs change, traffic spikes or failures occur.
  • Ways to stand out: working knowledge of Go.
