This is a lead data business analyst role supporting the global asset management arm of the company, within its Investment Solutions and Delivery team.
You will lead data-driven investment solutions from requirements through analysis, testing and implementation, so that they support accurate, timely and fact-based decisions.
You will work with investment teams, investment operations, risk, compliance, institutional sales, technology, data platform teams, external providers and other business areas to turn business goals into clear, testable requirements.
You will help shape the strategy and roadmap for investment data quality, data modelling, reporting and analytics, including documentation of data definitions, lineage and business processes.
The team values people who want to grow and make an impact. Training, coaching, manager support and networking opportunities are available.
The company is committed to an inclusive, equitable and accessible workplace, and accommodations are available during selection on request.
Application deadline: 11/06/2026. The role is virtual and remote, listed under Ontario (ON). It is part of the Data Analytics and Reporting job family.
Responsibilities
Lead requirements sessions with portfolio or product managers, investment operations, risk, compliance, institutional sales, technology and other stakeholders to understand goals, pain points and data needs.
Turn business goals into business requirements documents, functional specifications, user stories and acceptance criteria.
Document current and future business processes, data flows, control points, dependencies and procedures, and keep them current.
Maintain traceability from approved outcomes and requirements through data rules, solution design, test cases, defects, implementation evidence and business acceptance.
Judge proposed solutions against the underlying business goal, and push back on approaches that do not meet approved requirements.
Act as the subject-matter expert on investment data, including securities, holdings, transactions, performance, benchmarks, reference data and related datasets.
Build and maintain source-to-target mappings, data dictionaries, business rules, transformation requirements and supporting documentation.
Document lineage from internal and external sources to downstream reporting and analytics, supporting governance, controls and auditability.
Investigate root causes of data discrepancies, process breaks and control issues across business, operations, technology and vendors, and recommend fixes.
Use SQL and Python to analyse, profile and reconcile data from multiple sources, find gaps and quality issues, and make processes and reporting more efficient.
Organise data into dimensions and granularities such as products, positions and transactions to support reporting and analytics.
Consolidate legacy data sources with clear ownership, documentation and reduced technical debt, in line with modern data architecture.
Plan and run user acceptance testing, including strategy, scenarios, cases and test data, and obtain business sign-off before release.
Check data outputs against requirements and source systems, and automate validation where practical.
Log, track and close defects with technology teams and vendors.
Assess defect fixes and workarounds for their effect on requirements, data quality, operations, controls and downstream users.
Keep clear links between requirements, test evidence, defects, fixes and business acceptance.
Support the design, build and rollout of data, analytics and reporting solutions that match business strategy and stakeholder needs.
Coordinate release readiness, production deployment and post-release checks so solutions land on time, in scope and as intended.
Run pre- and post-implementation analyses to measure business impact and monitor solution performance end to end.
Design reports, dashboards and visualisations in Power BI and other tools, and write training materials and guides so business users can self-serve.
Act as the trusted data partner between business areas, technology and data platform teams, keeping scope, priorities, timelines and deliverables aligned.
Work with external parties such as custodians, fund administrators, market data vendors and technology providers on data requirements, issues and changes.
Challenge provider requirements, mappings, assumptions, workarounds, test evidence and delivery results that fall short of business requirements.
Report progress, risks, issues and recommendations clearly to stakeholders at every level, including senior leadership.
Work independently, using judgment to diagnose and resolve problems and handle unusual situations.
Take on other accountabilities as needed.
Requirements
Typically 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in business or data analysis, preferably in asset management, investment management or financial services.
A post-secondary degree in a related field, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
Strong knowledge of investment data and asset management operations, covering securities, holdings, transactions, performance and benchmarks across asset classes.
Proven experience writing requirements documents, functional specifications, user stories, source-to-target mappings and lineage documentation.
