Description

The Gecko engine sits at the core of the product experience. The team needs to look past surface metrics and understand how engine performance relates to real user behavior.

Current telemetry has data quality problems, including bot traffic in nightly data that hides true performance trends. This contract role bridges engineering telemetry and product decisions, giving leadership reliable data to set performance guardrails and technical budgets.

The work covers Gecko engine telemetry on Desktop and Android, with the Performance Team, Data Team and Product Leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain high-level dashboards that turn complex performance data into formats Product Managers and leadership can use.
  • Review the Gecko codebase to find missing collection points (probes) needed for a full view of the product experience.
  • Design methods and tools that detect and filter inconsistent data, especially bot traffic and hardware-specific noise in telemetry streams.
  • Write in-depth analyses linking shifts in technical metrics, such as LCP and eTLD+1, to user pain points and engagement trends.

Requirements

  • Advanced SQL with BigQuery or Redash.
  • Skill in building data visualizations with AI tools.
  • Experience with statistical methods such as Pearson correlation and multivariate analysis.
  • Knowledge of Rust or C++ is a strong plus.
  • Hands-on use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex or similar is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of how browser components interact and affect user experience.
  • Ability to work independently and turn technical requirements into business insights.
  • Comfort in unfamiliar technical areas, finding your way with minimal guidance by using documentation, experiments, source code, data and other resources.

Conditions

Contract position.

Canada Tier 1 locations: $93,450 to $124,600 CAD.

Canada Tier 2 locations: $84,600 to $112,800 CAD.
