Description

The company is hiring a Data Architect or Data Engineer to help design and deliver data solutions for clients in complex, regulated sectors: banking, insurance, wealth and asset management, and life sciences.

You will work with business and technology stakeholders in client-facing work across the US, UK and Europe. Your job is to shape data architectures, build scalable platforms and pipelines, and set up sound data governance, so organisations can get more from their data through analytics, AI and data-driven decisions within large transformation programmes.

The role suits someone who brings strong data architecture and engineering skills and can explain complex ideas to technical and non-technical people, has built modern data platforms, pipelines and integration architectures, understands governance, operating models, metadata, lineage and data quality frameworks, and can work across the full data lifecycle from strategy and architecture through delivery, adoption and optimisation.

You will be part of the company's Data & AI practice, which covers client delivery, business development, thought leadership and people development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex data transformation programmes, helping clients set data strategies, design enterprise data architectures and implement modern cloud data platforms.
  • Provide architectural direction across delivery teams and turn business requirements into scalable technical solutions, from strategy through to implementation.
  • Advise clients on enterprise data strategy, target operating models, governance frameworks and architecture patterns such as data lakes, warehouses, lakehouses and data mesh.
  • Run architecture assessments and give vendor-independent advice on platform and technology choices.
  • Help design scalable pipelines, integration frameworks and cloud-native data solutions that deliver trusted, high-quality data, and help build the foundations for analytics, machine learning, AI and GenAI use cases.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert in sales and pre-sales, help shape solution approaches, contribute to proposals and RFP responses, and find ways to grow the Data & AI work with strategic accounts.
  • Help evolve the company's data propositions with fresh thinking on data architecture, cloud platforms, governance and AI-ready data, and contribute to thought leadership, methods, accelerators and market insights.
  • Coach and mentor consultants and engineers, share knowledge, build internal capability and promote good practice across the practice.
  • Keep up with developments in data architecture, engineering, cloud, analytics and AI, and bring relevant trends and tools into client work and internal initiatives.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in consulting or client-facing roles, or equivalent industry experience delivering data engineering and architecture solutions.
  • Solid grasp of data engineering principles, including pipeline design, ETL and ELT, ingestion patterns, orchestration and integration approaches.
  • Experience designing or governing modern architectures such as lakehouse, warehouse, data mesh or data fabric.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one cloud data ecosystem: Azure (Data Factory, Synapse, Fabric, ADLS, Databricks), AWS (Glue, Redshift, EMR), GCP (BigQuery, Dataflow), Databricks (Spark/PySpark), or Snowflake (SQL, Snowpark, performance tuning).
  • Desirable: strong SQL and/or Python skills, and familiarity with tools such as dbt, Git, CI/CD or MLOps frameworks.
  • Desirable: understanding of BI and visualisation principles (Power BI or Tableau) and of what downstream analytics teams need.
