The company runs one of the largest global networks, serving millions of websites and Internet properties, from individual bloggers and small businesses to Fortune 500 firms.
Its platform protects and speeds up any online application without new hardware, software installs, or code changes. Traffic passes through a global network that improves with every request, and customers see major gains in performance and fewer spam and attack incidents.
The team looks for builders who notice problems others have accepted, use current AI tools to build fixes, value curiosity over bureaucracy, and share every improvement across the team. This role reports to a Customer Engineering Leader within the go-to-market organization.
Responsibilities
Act as the main technical driver of the go-to-market approach, serving as a trusted technical adviser and lead architect of the customer journey. Connect technical design to business value from pre-sales validation through onboarding, deployment, and expansion.
Work with Account Executives to lead technical discovery, gather business requirements, and map customer infrastructure (DNS, CDN, Zero Trust, network security, Workers) to suitable the company architectures. Define scope, success criteria, and evaluation plans for proofs of concept and technical validations. Build tailored presentations, architecture diagrams, and demonstrations. Handle technical objections, security compliance questions, and edge-case requirements during the sales cycle. Make sure every proposal names a deployment approach: customer, partner, or the company professional services.
Oversee technical onboarding and implementation without carrying out the work yourself, and act as the main executive and engineering contact for the customer. Design migration and onboarding plans for each environment, such as DNS moves, Zero Trust rollouts, and WAF tuning. Guide customer engineers step by step through configuration best practices. Track customer health scores and telemetry to speed time-to-value, clear integration blockers, and lower deployment risk.
Carry a variable quota tied to new business, ongoing account growth, or both. Own deep platform adoption and revenue retention, and find cross-sell and upsell opportunities in product usage data. Lead technical quarterly business reviews that show C-level executives the return on the platform.
Stay a trusted technical adviser through the full lifecycle, from onboarding to maturity, renewal, and expansion. Advise on architecture, AI control layers, security posture, and deployment confidence. Flag risks and integration bottlenecks early and propose ways to reduce them.
Use AI agents, large language models, and internal platforms to automate routine work such as RFP and security questionnaire responses, sandbox provisioning, basic telemetry monitoring, and documentation, so more of your time goes to customer advisory.
Work with the Enablement Team to create and maintain technical resources, including standard operating procedures, architecture best practices, and technical guides for internal teams and customers.
Requirements
Experience in a customer-facing technical role, such as solutions, customer, or sales engineering, professional services, technical account management, or forward deployed engineering. Years required depend on level (Associate, Senior, Staff, or Principal).
Ability to whiteboard, design, and clearly explain complex enterprise network and security architectures.
Clear communication that turns deep technical detail into business outcomes for hands-on engineers and C-level executives.
Proven record in quota-carrying or revenue-focused roles, with a solid grasp of SaaS metrics, business value translation, and enterprise sales cycles.
Strong presentation and stakeholder management, bridging implementation detail and C-suite strategy.
Depth in at least four of these areas: Internet fundamentals (OSI layers 1-7, BGP, GRE, TCP/UDP, authoritative and recursive DNS, HTTP(S), SSL/TLS); security (WAF, bot management, firewalls, rate limiting, mTLS, Zero Trust, SASE); performance (speed, latency, caching, video streaming, HTTP/2, TLS 1.3); AI proficiency (prompt engineering, AI-assisted scripting, log analysis, LLM use, workflow automation); coding and scripting (Python, JavaScript, Bash, Lua, Go, or similar); developer platform fluency (REST and GraphQL APIs, SDKs, webhooks, cloud-native deployment, Terraform, Pulumi, CI/CD, observability).
Undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
Strongly preferred: experience creating technical enablement such as workshops, code samples, documentation, or developer onboarding that speeds customer adoption of complex platforms.
Strongly preferred: applied AI experience with LLM orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) architectures, and model-access controls.
Strongly preferred: understanding of regulatory requirements such as PCI DSS, HIPAA, and SOC 2.
Strongly preferred: background at a hyperscaler, digital native, distributed systems environment, or startup, bringing deeper cloud fluency and architecture depth.
