Custom Software Developer - Jira, Confluence & Atlassian portfolio

Description

The engineering tooling team at the company owns and improves the platforms that engineers across the company use daily to plan, build, test and release software. These include Jira, Confluence, codebeamer, OpenPDM and AllureTestOps, running in a global, GxP-regulated environment.

The team keeps these platforms reliable at enterprise scale, simplifies how they are used, and improves developer experience through automation and AI-enabled tools. It is also moving Jira from Data Center to Cloud and reviewing the wider engineering tooling portfolio.

You will work in a distributed, international team, partnering closely with business stakeholders, Product Owners and software compliance colleagues. The role is a senior custom software developer position that combines hands-on full-stack work with mentoring and process improvement.

Responsibilities

• Own tasks and topics that have no defined owner, and drive small to medium initiatives through to completion.
• Question existing practices, help people work together, and coach and mentor colleagues.
• Set priorities and keep stakeholders informed, keeping in view how each technical component fits the overall strategy.
• Act as a technical mentor, align development plans with the global strategy, and take on work beyond your regular project scope.
• Share knowledge through talks and organized events such as DevOps Days and internal tech talks.
• Work across the whole product or site level, with a clear understanding of the wider technical landscape beyond the component you are working on.
• Set technical direction that supports organizational goals, and invest in creative, innovative work without lowering engineering quality.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional experience in software engineering or IT platforms, including at least 3 years of hands-on Atlassian administration, ideally on Atlassian Cloud.
• Current or past hands-on experience as a software developer.
• A proven record of driving small to medium initiatives at project, squad or product level while handling shifting priorities.
• A track record of mentoring others and sharing knowledge through talks and organized events.
• Deep knowledge of Jira and Confluence. Experience across the wider Atlassian portfolio, such as Jira Product Discovery or Marketplace apps, is a strong plus.
• Hands-on experience running Atlassian Cloud at enterprise scale. Data Center experience and Data Center to Cloud migration work are beneficial.
• Understanding of GxP and computer system validation (CSV), ideally with validated Jira templates for requirements, testing and defect management. This is an advantage.
• Solid experience automating work with scripts, APIs and Jira automation, and using AI-assisted development tools such as VS Code with GitHub Copilot, Codex or Claude Code.
• Proven hands-on programming skills in at least one of Python, Java or JavaScript, and a willingness to learn the others.
• A proven ability to design, build, deploy and maintain software tailored to business needs.
• Ability to improve the full software delivery process, from code to production.
• A good understanding of cybersecurity and secure software development practices.
• Ability to find and resolve complex technical debt, performance bottlenecks and architectural problems early.
• Solid understanding of software quality management and its metrics.
• Strong willingness to collaborate, learn and help others, which matters more than technical knowledge.
• Accountable, proactive and autonomous, needing little supervision while delivering value continuously.
• Strong skill at planning and estimating small to medium tasks.
