Description

The team is hiring a freelance creative director, open to art or copy backgrounds.

The role suits someone who follows the internet closely and builds ideas from cultural insight that people want to share.

You will spot creators, memes, and trends early and understand why a story will spread beyond the feed.

The focus is on ideas that start with earned attention rather than chasing it afterwards.

You will lead a multidisciplinary group that brings bold ideas to major brands.

The brief is not about recycling old formats. It is about finding the idea people will join and pass on, and making it work in practice.

Responsibilities

  • Set creative direction from first concept to finished piece, pinpointing a human insight, cultural tension, or surprising opening that lets an idea spread.
  • Design ideas to earn attention, conversation, and participation instead of filling a channel with content.
  • Use your knowledge of media, creators, communities, and culture to help ideas break through.
  • Work with strategy, account, media relations, social, and analytics colleagues to build integrated ideas grounded in audience insight and real opportunities.
  • Give clear, constructive direction, help teams sharpen their thinking and craft, and keep them focused on why the idea matters. Get hands-on when needed, whether your background is art or copy.
  • Track platforms, subcultures, emerging media, and news conversations, bringing in signals that serve the work rather than chasing trends.
  • Present ideas clearly and persuasively to colleagues and clients, explaining what the work is and why it can earn attention.

Requirements

  • 7, 10+ years in art direction, design, copywriting, or creative leadership, with a portfolio showing strong concepts and high-quality execution.
  • A record of developing or leading earned-led campaigns, with a clear sense of what makes an idea newsworthy, shareable, and relevant beyond paid placements.
  • Ability to find a compelling, original concept and shape it so it connects with people and moves across platforms.
  • Ongoing awareness of people, platforms, creators, communities, and conversations, plus the judgment to separate real insight from a passing trend.
  • Comfort leading multidisciplinary teams, improving work through direction, and adjusting your approach to each project.
  • If you are an art director or designer: a strong visual point of view and skill in the tools needed to realise ideas. If you are a copywriter: range from a scroll-stopping caption to a script or platform-wide narrative. Either way, you know when an idea needs to be made, written, presented, or reworked.
  • Ability to get up to speed quickly, earn team trust, and bring focus and momentum.
  • A sense of humour, including about yourself and the internet.

Conditions

Freelance contingent contract.

Pay is listed as $100.00 - $100.00.

To the extent local law allows, the parent company requires employees to work in the office at least 3 days a week, unless their agency or manager directs additional in-office days.

Benefits

  • Work alongside talented people who back bold ideas, cultural insight, and teamwork.
  • Help create work that earns attention and leaves an impression on brands, audiences, and culture.
  • Bring your own perspective to varied challenges and help teams find new approaches.
  • Snacks are available.
