Description

The company is building a large network of distributed batteries to turn the centralized, fragile grid into a more resilient, abundant power system. The team includes engineers, operators, and creative people working on hard, interdisciplinary problems.

The consumer product designer will help people find, understand, and start using the company's service, and keep the experience consistent across the customer journey.

The role covers the website, enrollment flow, and mobile app, with work on existing experiences and new features as the company grows.

The Design team makes complex products and technology feel simple, approachable, and trustworthy. Its work spans new markets, utility partnerships, and helping homeowners understand a new kind of power company.

The team works across digital products, physical products, campaigns, sales, and events. The team is small and moves fast, with a high standard for craft.

The company is a startup, so priorities and the role itself may change at any time, and the responsibilities listed are not exhaustive.

Responsibilities

  • Find ways to improve how people discover, understand, and enroll, from small copy and design changes to entirely new flows. Benchmark strong onboarding and conversion experiences and use conversion data to judge what works.
  • Spot opportunities, test new ideas, and own new features from concept to launch on the website and mobile app.
  • Use product metrics, enrollment funnels, and member behavior to find friction, test assumptions, and decide what to build.
  • Track performance after launch, measure results against your goals, and use what you learn to guide the next round of changes.
  • Prototype ideas with AI, code, and other tools, and turn concepts into working experiences.
  • Make energy and the grid simple and easy to understand.
  • Work with the product design team to evolve the design language and design systems.
  • Juggle several projects, deciding when to move fast, when to dig deeper, and which work matters most.

Requirements

  • 2 to 4 years of product design experience, ideally on consumer products.
  • A portfolio showing strong visual craft, thoughtful interaction design, and clear problem solving.
  • Comfort with product metrics and analytics to understand user behavior, spot friction, and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to take a defined problem, explore options, and drive a solution through to launch on your own.
  • Experience using product data, customer insights, and experiments to find opportunities, improve experiences, and measure impact.
  • Comfort using AI and new tools beyond standard design workflows. Work you have built, not only designed, is welcome.
  • Strong Figma skills and experience working within and contributing to a design system.
  • Sound design judgment and the ability to produce excellent work within real constraints.
  • A resourceful, curious attitude. You are willing to learn new skills and find better ways of working.
  • A clear point of view on your work, with openness to feedback and collaboration.
  • Curiosity about energy, climate, or products that combine hardware and software.

Conditions

The team works in person, and the role is not a 9-to-5.

Equal opportunity: applicants are considered without regard to protected characteristics.
