Description

Graphics processing units were invented at the company in 1999. That work helped build the PC gaming market, changed computer graphics, and pushed parallel computing forward. Later, GPUs powering deep learning drove the current wave of AI, and the company is now widely known for AI computing.

The company is growing its engineering teams. This internship sits in the back-end compiler team, which produces the fastest GPU machine code for graphics APIs (OpenGL, Vulkan, DX) and compute languages and platforms (CUDA, PTX, OpenCL, Fortran, C++). The team is made up of compiler specialists who build performance and features for current and future parallel SIMT chip designs.

The internship is for a 2021 cohort.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with a mentor and contribute to the wider OCG team.
  • Partner with compiler, hardware and application teams to drive improvements and resolve issues.
  • Help build deep-learning compiler technology, from architecture design through to functional language support.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in computer science, computer engineering or a closely related field.
  • Completed an undergraduate compiler design course.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and speech, and follow sound software engineering practice.
  • Write strong C++ code.

Optional, marked as 'ways to stand out': hands-on work with backend compiler design and code generation.

Optional, marked as 'a plus': experience with GPU or parallel architectures, CUDA and/or PTX, or IR compression.

Optional, marked as 'a plus': experience with register allocation or instruction scheduling, or a strong interest in them.

Hourly pay is set by role, location, year in school, degree and experience, and ranges from 20 USD to 71 USD.

Applications are accepted at least until November 2, 2026. This posting is for an existing vacancy.
