Cloud Platform Engineer

Description

The company is a global renewable energy trading business that moves energy from source to use, supporting businesses, homes and societies through the shift to sustainable energy.

The Cloud Platform team is growing and is looking for a junior or mid-level engineer to help build a platform that lets developers ship products without having to master the infrastructure beneath them.

The platform serves around 80 developers and data scientists. The work spans day-to-day technical problems, automation and observability, and you will sit alongside experienced engineers who will help you take on broader platform work over time.

The platform runs on AWS with managed services including EKS, RDS and MSK, plus open-source software across several Kubernetes clusters. Infrastructure is declarative and managed through Git, using Terraform and ArgoCD and a broad observability stack. The team also builds delivery and CI tooling, mainly in Go and C, with scripting.

The company operates across eight offices on three continents, with more than 800 energy professionals working with producers, suppliers, large consumers and trading counterparties in global energy markets. It trades power, gas and LNG and works with renewable and flexible energy assets, including Power Purchase Agreements, optimisation and flexibility, biomethane and energy certificates.

Responsibilities

• Answer developers' questions, support their onboarding and help them with everyday platform use.
• Look into incidents and alerts, find out what happened, and work on the root causes.
• Keep the infrastructure healthy and make the systems easier to observe and understand.
• Automate repetitive tasks and make practical improvements to tooling and security.
• After an initial period of getting to know the platform and the team's way of working, join the 24/7 weekly on-call rotation.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with some of: Linux, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Git. Study, a home lab or a first job all count.
• Curiosity about cloud-native technology and AI, and a drive to understand why things fail.
• A preference for fixing problems properly rather than working around them again and again.
• A habit of automating anything you find yourself repeating.
• Patience with others and the ability to explain technical topics clearly.
• Eagerness to learn a wide range of technologies. You do not need to know the whole stack yet.
• Good written and spoken English, and willingness to say what you think.
• A degree in computer science, or equivalent practical experience.
