Cloud FinOps Engineer

Description

This role puts the technical side of the FinOps model into practice and keeps cloud cost and usage data integrated, accurate and available.

You will link applications and workloads to the cloud resources behind them, so spending can be traced, consumption and its financial effect understood, and costs allocated, monitored, reported and reduced.

Responsibilities

• Set up and manage Cloud Financial Management or FinOps platforms.
• Connect cloud accounts, subscriptions and data sources, keeping the information consistent and reliable.
• Map applications and workloads to the cloud resources and services they use, so their costs can be traced.
• Build tagging taxonomies, business dimensions, mapping rules and technical cost allocation mechanisms.
• Create budgets, alerts, views and technical dashboards.
• Track tagging compliance and find resources that have no classification.
• Help analyse rightsizing, idle or unused resources, reserved capacity and consumption commitments.
• Relate changes in consumption and optimization recommendations to application architecture, usage, performance and criticality.
• Automate FinOps processes and integrations with APIs, scripts and Infrastructure as Code.
• Carry out the technical requirements set by FinOps functional roles, and work with FinOps, Cloud and Application teams to turn recommendations into measurable technical actions.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in cloud engineering, cloud financial management, FinOps engineering or a similar role.
• A cloud administration or architecture certification, or an equivalent qualification.
• Hands-on work with Cloud Financial Management or FinOps platforms, including ingesting and processing cost and usage data, tagging and allocation models, budgets, alerts, dashboards, reporting and data source integration.
• Solid technical knowledge of public cloud, multicloud architectures and application workloads.
• The ability to read application architectures and technical dependencies, and link usage patterns to their costs.
• Knowledge of compute, containers, databases, storage, networking, PaaS and serverless, and observability, seen from a consumption and optimization angle.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, scripting, automation and API integration.
• Knowledge of integrating, transforming and validating cloud billing and usage data.
