Description

The Lead Systems Engineer 2 role provides systems engineering design leadership to the Data Transfer Systems (DTS) product team across full life cycle development for both Data Storage and Displays products.

Systems work is a cross-functional discipline that covers the product approach, mindset and process. It spans business and technical needs, with the aim of building a quality product that serves users. In practice this means defining and quantifying requirements, generating alternative concepts, running design trade studies, choosing and implementing the strongest design, integrating subsystems and confirming the design meets its requirements.

You will influence both how your team performs and your own results across design, quality, cost and schedule. You will work with moderate autonomy and use sound operational judgment to reach the required outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Give technical guidance on avionics systems definition, design, integration and verification.
  • Work closely with customers and lead the systems portion of design reviews from SRR through PRR.
  • Work with the Hardware, Software, Systems, Test and Manufacturing teams to find risks, put corrective actions in place and improve product capability.
  • Plan and run requirements verification in both informal and formal settings.
  • Communicate clearly with customers.

Requirements

  • Have experience in aerospace, defense systems, avionics, or other complex electronics, computer or networking systems engineering.
  • Have previously developed LRU-level products for complex avionics, computing, or data server applications.
  • Have previously defined architectures and requirements for avionics computing or data storage systems.
  • Have worked with systems engineering processes, including requirements definition, allocation, management, and verification and validation.
  • Have hands-on lab experience integrating software onto hardware platforms, using test equipment, and working with design assurance disciplines and manufacturing.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in an engineering or technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • Have at least 5 years of systems design and development experience.
  • Desired: working knowledge of avionics data storage or displays products.
  • Desired: prior aerospace or avionics design and development experience.
  • Desired: ability to read and critique electrical schematics.
  • Desired: ability to read and critique software source code.
  • Desired: experience developing software in Python, C, or another common language.
  • Desired: experience with systems modeling tools or languages such as Cameo, SysML, or MATLAB.
  • Desired: experience with cyber security, computing platforms, data networking, and embedded software design.
  • Desired: strong competency with the DOORS requirements management tool.
  • Desired: good written and verbal communication skills.
