CDM Principal Designer

Description

The team is national, so the role can be based at any of the main offices in Manchester, Basingstoke, Glasgow, Cambridge or Bristol.

You will work alongside the GGP CDM Lead to build positive engagement, share CDM knowledge across projects, and promote good practice and health, safety and wellbeing.

The work is Principal Designer services on some of the largest energy infrastructure projects in the UK, with project teams and clients.

The company provides infrastructure consulting across transportation, buildings, water, new energy and the environment, with over 50,000 staff worldwide. Its Professional Services business had revenue of $16.1 billion in fiscal year 2025.

Responsibilities

• Act as a visible advocate for health, wellbeing, safety and the environment, pushing for continuous improvement and a mature safety culture under company policies and SH&E strategy.
• Lead the pre-construction phase, manage risk, improve communication and cooperation, and oversee the handover from design to construction, including preparing health and safety files.
• Take ownership of quality in every task and deliverable, and keep looking for ways to improve methods, processes and results.
• Advise energy project staff and clients on CDM, helping them meet their own statutory duties and dealing with any legal gaps directly and professionally.
• Work with colleagues and managers to build a cohesive team based on respect, support and cooperation.
• Encourage people to follow procedures and process requirements within your area, to improve compliance and the safety culture.
• Help promote the company's Safety for Life, Culture of Caring and Life Preserving Principles to keep the workplace safe, healthy and secure.

Requirements

• A design or engineering degree.
• Experience on overhead line and HV projects.
• Membership of the Association of Project Safety.
• A NEBOSH National or General Certificate, or a similar health and safety qualification.
• Experience acting as Principal Designer under CDM on energy projects, delivering the role effectively and efficiently.

Conditions

Hybrid working, with the flexibility to work from an office, from home or at a client site.

You must attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at a company office as a condition of employment.
