CDM Principal Designer

Description

The role sits in the environment and energy health, safety and environment team, which works nationally, and the post can be based at any of the main offices in Manchester, Basingstoke, Glasgow, Cambridge or Bristol.

You will work alongside the GGP CDM Lead, sharing CDM knowledge across projects and encouraging good practice and a strong commitment to health, safety and wellbeing.

You will provide Principal Designer services on some of the largest energy infrastructure projects in the UK, working with internal teams and clients.

Responsibilities

• Champion health, wellbeing, safety and the environment, pushing for continuous improvement to build a mature safety culture under company policies, procedures and SH&E strategies.
• Lead the pre-construction phase on your projects, manage risk, improve communication and cooperation, and oversee the handover from design to construction, including preparing health and safety files.
• Raise the quality of every task, activity and deliverable in your scope, and keep looking for better methods, processes and results.
• Advise energy project staff and clients on CDM so that statutory duties, yours and theirs, are met, and deal promptly and professionally with any legislative gaps.
• Work with colleagues and managers as one cohesive team built on respect, support and cooperation.
• Encourage adherence to procedures and process requirements within your scope to improve compliance.
• Promote the company's Safety for Life, Culture of Caring and Life Preserving Principles to support a safe, healthy and secure workplace.

Requirements

• A design or engineering degree.
• Experience with overhead lines and HV projects.
• Membership of the Association of Project Safety.
• A NEBOSH National or General Certificate, or a similar health and safety qualification.
• Experience delivering the Principal Designer role under CDM on energy projects, carrying out duties effectively and efficiently.
