Description

The company is a local news broadcaster operating 64 television stations in 51 U.S. markets, reaching more than 100 million people each month across the web, mobile apps, streaming, and linear TV.

This role is for the Broadcast Engineer Lead at WATN / WLMT TV, who runs the broadcast and IT systems that support a 24/7 newsroom operation.

You report to the Head of Technology as the station's top technical lead. You set technical direction, run major projects, and are the escalation point for engineering staff. You hold decision-making authority but have no direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Keep key broadcast and IT systems reliable, scalable, and high performing.
  • Define system architecture and engineering standards that follow corporate guidelines, and propose technology roadmaps.
  • Plan, design, and deliver local, capital, and corporate engineering projects.
  • Design and approve how studios, control rooms, transmission, automation, and asset management systems connect.
  • Guide engineering staff, hand off routine tasks, and check their work quality.
  • Maintain servers, storage, and networks, solve complex faults, and look after HVAC, UPS, and backup power.
  • Make sure the station meets FCC, IT security, OSHA, and disaster recovery requirements.
  • Keep engineering standards, wiring documentation, and operating procedures up to date.
  • Work with corporate engineering, vendors, IT security, and station leadership.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, IT, or a related field, or equivalent experience, plus 5+ years in broadcast operations or technology, including leading complex projects.
  • Hands-on experience with broadcast systems, networking, servers, and desktop support.
  • Knowledge of satellite, microwave, and IP newsgathering is preferred.

Conditions

The company is an equal opportunity employer.

Benefits

  • Two medical plan options for full and part-time employees through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, plus dental, eye care, fertility, surrogacy, and adoption assistance, and disability and life insurance.
  • 401(k) with pre-tax contributions from 1% to 80% of pay. The company matches 100% of the first 4% of pay, and matched funds vest immediately.
  • All employees and eligible family members, whether or not they join the medical plans, get nine free virtual doctor visits through Teladoc and 12 free annual therapy sessions with a licensed clinician through Spring Health.
  • Generous paid time off and nine paid holidays per year.
  • Some roles fall under a collective bargaining agreement, so some or all of these benefits may not apply. For example, some newsroom bargaining unit staff get health and retirement benefits through union-run plans.
