BI Consultant Back-End & Semantic Modelling

The company provides clinical research, commercial insights and healthcare intelligence to life sciences and healthcare clients.

You will be part of the Lisbon team in Portugal, working with international colleagues on projects for the Belgian healthcare and life sciences market.

You will build data solutions and AI-ready semantic models that make business data easier to find, understand, govern and use in analytics and AI applications.

The role suits someone who enjoys turning business needs into dependable data products and wants to grow across BI, data engineering and AI.

Responsibilities

• Turn business and data requirements into practical integration, back-end and semantic modelling solutions.
• Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines, data transformations and curated data layers.
• Create and extend dimensional and semantic models, including relationships, hierarchies, measures and reusable business definitions.
• Prepare data for AI through consistent terminology, metadata, governance and lineage.
• Work with business stakeholders, analysts, data engineers, data scientists and front-end developers.
• Improve data quality, performance and processes over time.
• Take part across the lifecycle, from requirements and design through development, testing and deployment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, engineering, data, business intelligence or a related field.
• Typically 3+ years in BI, data engineering, analytics engineering or a similar back-end role.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with ETL/ELT and data integration.
• Experience with technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, Informatica Cloud or SSIS.
• Understanding of data warehousing, dimensional modelling and Kimball principles.
• Experience with data and semantic modelling for BI and analytics.
• Familiarity with APIs and common data exchange formats.
• Working English at a professional level.
• A collaborative, customer-focused and solution-oriented approach, with curiosity and a strong sense of ownership.
• A plus: experience in healthcare, pharmaceuticals or life sciences.
• A plus: experience with Power BI semantic models, Analysis Services, dbt Semantic Layer, AtScale or similar technologies.
• A plus: experience with metadata, data catalogues, lineage, governance or knowledge graphs.
• A plus: familiarity with AI concepts such as LLMs, RAG or vector search in enterprise analytics.
• A plus: experience with Power BI, Qlik Sense or QlikView.
• A plus: experience with cloud data architectures, Agile, version control or CI/CD.
• A plus: experience with Veeva or other life sciences platforms.
