Backend Java Lead Developer - Vice President

Description

The team builds and runs the margin calculation platform within Prime Services. The platform handles very large volumes of financial data and applies detailed business rules to work out client margin requirements, which supports the firm's risk management.

The role is a senior hands-on Java position covering development, technical design, performance tuning, and full ownership of business-critical features.

You will collaborate daily with developers, business analysts, and risk and operations staff spread across several regions. You will have room to shape platform design, coach other developers, and refine how the team engineers software.

Responsibilities

• Build, test, and ship Java applications that power margin calculation.
• Turn intricate financial requirements into correct, readable, and thoroughly tested code.
• Lead the technical design of major changes and help set the direction of the platform's roadmap.
• Speed up calculations through concurrency, multithreading, parallel processing, caching, and leaner database queries.
• Create batch jobs and event-driven workflows that handle high volumes.
• Review code and designs, define development standards, and guide other engineers.
• Take a deliverable from requirements analysis through to production release.
• Look into production incidents, find root causes, and deliver lasting fixes.
• Strengthen monitoring, resilience, day-to-day support, and recovery procedures.
• Coordinate with technology and business teams worldwide on dependencies, risks, and delivery dates.
• Make sure solutions satisfy security, regulatory, audit, and technology control rules.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of professional software development experience, with strong hands-on Java skills.
• Advanced core Java knowledge, covering collections, streams, concurrency, multithreading, synchronization, and memory management.
• Solid experience with Spring, especially Spring Boot, Spring Batch, Spring Integration, and Spring Data.
• Experience building high-volume, calculation-heavy, or distributed systems.
• Sound grasp of algorithms, data structures, design patterns, and clean code practices.
• Experience with Kafka, JMS, or a comparable messaging technology.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases.
• Experience with JUnit, Mockito, test-driven development, and automated integration tests.
• A track record of diagnosing and improving application performance.
• Working proficiency in Linux, Git, CI/CD, and production support practices.
• Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
• Ability to lead delivery and explain issues clearly to both technical and business audiences.
• Preferred: experience with margin, collateral, risk, pricing, Prime Services, or other financial platforms.
• Preferred: experience building calculation engines or implementing complex business rules.
• Preferred: experience with large-scale batch processing and job scheduling.
• Preferred: experience with Apache Geode, GemFire, or another distributed caching technology.
• Preferred: familiarity with Hibernate, JPA, Jackson, and related Java frameworks.
• Preferred: experience modernizing complex or legacy applications.
• Preferred: experience with application monitoring, logging, alerting, and performance profiling.
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Conditions

Full-time position based in New York, New York, United States.

Base salary range is $142,320.00 to $213,480.00.
