Description

The company is building an agentic AI platform and the solutions that run on it, and this role leads the engineering work across design, build, deployment and ongoing tuning.

You will turn existing products, processes and workflows into AI-driven experiences that act on their own, building systems that are scalable, secure and reliable.

You will be a senior technical leader working with product, data, architecture, security and business teams to set platform direction and keep the AI lifecycle improving.

The team is hiring 3 people for this Associate Director, AI Foundations Engineering role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, design and delivery of the agentic AI platform and its related solutions.
  • Turn current products, processes and workflows into agentic AI capabilities that scale.
  • Run end-to-end AI engineering, covering development, deployment, monitoring, reliability and continuous improvement.
  • Work with cross-functional partners to set technical roadmaps, platform standards and priorities that support business goals.
  • Set engineering practices for AI performance, scalability, security, governance and maintainability.
  • Guide how AI models, orchestration frameworks and platform components are evaluated, integrated and tuned.
  • Build, coach and lead strong engineering teams that value new ideas, ownership and technical quality.
  • Find ways to deliver value faster through reusable AI services, automation and operational gains.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering, including 1 to 2 years building on large language models and at least one agentic system running in production, beyond a demo.
  • Hands-on work building AI agents on AWS, including Amazon Bedrock (models, Agents, Knowledge Bases, Guardrails) and Bedrock AgentCore or similar tools for agent runtime, memory, tool access and identity.
  • Working knowledge of at least one agent framework, such as Strands Agents, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, CrewAI or a custom orchestration layer, and the judgment to know when a simple workflow beats a multi-agent design.
  • Strong Python, plus experience with AWS services common in agent systems: Lambda, Step Functions, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3 and IAM.
  • Experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), including chunking, embeddings, vector stores (OpenSearch, pgvector or similar) and improving retrieval quality.
  • Experience designing tool use and function calling so agents can reach APIs, databases and enterprise systems.
  • An approach to evaluation and observability: agent behavior test sets, LLM-as-judge or human review loops, tracing (CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, LangSmith or similar), and cost and latency monitoring.
  • Ability to move an unclear business problem to a working prototype quickly, then make it production-ready with security, guardrails, error handling and CI/CD using CDK or Terraform.
  • Clear explanation of technical tradeoffs to product and business partners, and comfort in a small, fast-moving team.
  • Optional: an advanced degree (a plus, not required).
  • Optional: familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) (preferred).
  • Skills the posting lists: cross-functional collaboration, customer engagement, customer insights, data analytics, digital marketing, market research, media campaigns, product marketing, stakeholder engagement, stakeholder management, team leadership and the waterfall model.
