Associate BIT Field Engineer

Description

The company is a global media and entertainment business that builds and distributes stories across film, TV, streaming and sports, with a focus on creators, audiences and technology.

This is a field support role in a 24x7x365 newsgathering and live production setting, covering breaking news and major sports and tentpole events such as NHL, MLB, Roland Garros and the Olympics.

You will mainly work in the field, with some time in-house or helping the Broadcast and IT teams on projects and maintenance when not deployed.

The role needs strong problem solving and the ability to work independently within a team. Managing your own workload with help from management is expected.

Customer service and clear verbal and written communication are required.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain and repair streaming, audio and video remote live production gear around the clock at the DC Bureau and outside broadcast sites such as Capitol Hill, the White House, the Pentagon and the State Department.
• Run multi-path transmission systems that send IP video, audio and data using bonded cellular, COFDM and streaming, and provide IT and network support so connections stay reliable.
• Coordinate technical installs with vendors and production teams.
• Support live REMI productions for news and sports anywhere in the world, delivering several high-quality 1080p HDR feeds from remote sites to production centers with steady signal and transmission under live conditions.
• Document quality standards, system faults, procedures, reference material and project work using AutoCAD, Visio and/or Miro for diagrams, and log incidents and requests in ServiceNow.
• Keep parts and supplies stocked by working with procurement and asset management to order and track inventory.
• Support satellite transmission when needed, including operating KU trucks and portable transmission equipment.

Requirements

• Typically two or more years of hands-on work in live production, broadcast engineering or IT support, with a record of solving complex problems across broadcast and networking equipment in fast-moving on-air settings.
• Experience with live production workflows.
• Working knowledge of basic servers, network topology and operating systems.
• Able to work every shift in a 24x7x365 production environment.
• Able to lift 50 lbs and climb ladders to install equipment and cable.
• Able to obtain a CDL Class B license if the business requires it.
• Desirable: willingness to learn WBD proprietary equipment and applications.
• Desirable: exposure to vendors such as Sony, Haivision, Evertz and Multidyne.
• Desirable: networking certification or similar.
• Desirable: AutoCAD, MS Office Suite and Visio experience.
• Desirable: familiarity with ITSM service management processes and/or ServiceNow.
• A 2 or 4 year technical degree, ideally in live production or computer engineering, or equivalent education, experience or training.
• Demonstrated knowledge of computer hardware, applications and data networking.
• Preferred: specific certifications may be required to work on proprietary equipment or systems.

Conditions

Work is 24x7x365 with field deployments, mostly domestic with occasional international travel.

Lifting equipment of 50 lbs or more may be necessary, and some assignments may need you to be ready to take on varied tasks.

Hiring salary range is $56,493.00 to $104,915.00 per year. Pay varies with location, market data, internal equity, skills, experience, training, education and performance.
