Application Engineer

The role supports advanced materials characterization and failure analysis across semiconductor and high-technology work, covering SEM, FIB, ICP/MS, X-ray/CT and related techniques.

You would help expand the team's technical capability, support customer escalations, drive application innovation and help adopt next-generation characterization technologies.

Responsibilities

• Act as a subject matter expert in materials characterization and failure analysis methods.
• Help build and refine analytical methods.
• Lead difficult troubleshooting and root-cause investigations for customer and internal projects.
• Write best practices, operating procedures and application notes.
• Create characterization workflows for semiconductor devices, packaging, interconnects and advanced materials.
• Assess new technologies and emerging uses.
• Collaborate with R&D, product engineering, process engineering and manufacturing teams.
• Give expert support for customer demonstrations, evaluations and escalations.
• Present technical material and run training programs.
• Join customer visits and strategic technical discussions.
• Work with engineering, marketing and product management on new tool adoption and technology roadmaps.
• Mentor junior application engineers and help develop their technical skills.

Requirements

• You bring strong hands-on experience with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), materials characterization, failure analysis, image analysis and metrology, and tool troubleshooting.
• Highly Preferred: SEM/EDX, focused ion beam (FIB), CT-Xray and ICP-MS.
• Experience with surface analysis techniques.
• Working knowledge of optical microscopy.
• Skill in statistical data analysis.
• Ability to program or script for data automation.
• Either an MS or PhD in materials science, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering or a related technical discipline, or a BS degree with significant industry experience.

Conditions

Full-time, regular position.

Location: Santa Clara, CA.

Travel is required 20% of the time.

Eligible for relocation.

Base salary range: $147,000.00 - $202,500.00. Pay depends on location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity with current team members.

For sales roles, the posted range is the Target Total Cash range, which is base salary plus target bonus at 100% goal achievement.
