Application Engineer - Intelligent Operations (T4) (f/m/d)

Description

You will join the Intelligent Operations pillar of the engineering and operations team within CIS Forward Deployed Engineering, which supports and guardrails AI forward deployed engineering engagements across SAP industries.

The pillar covers what happens after go-live, keeping deployed solutions healthy and improving them.

The capability is new and does not yet operate at scale, so you will help define how it works from the ground up.

This is a leadership role without a management title. You will work across engineering squads and hubs, with external delivery partners, and with customers when production needs it.

The team is being assembled now.

Responsibilities

• Define the handover framework that sets what must be in place before a team takes over an engagement moving from value delivery to value operation.
• Build monitoring, alerting and incident response for deployed AI solutions.
• Design operations so that contractual SLA commitments are met reliably, relying on system design rather than emergency effort.
• Assure AI quality in production through drift detection, performance benchmarking, guardrail validation and retraining triggers, using methods that differ from classical software QA.
• Set standards for production security, data boundaries and compliance after deployment, and work with engineers to keep the enterprise bar in place.
• Establish self-healing capabilities for deployed solutions.
• Design a scalable operating model with tooling, automation and partner integration so each new go-live does not start from scratch.
• Work with the Knowledge and IP team to capture operational learnings and feed them back into the delivery lifecycle.
• Mentor engineers, set operational standards and build the technical skills of a growing team.

Requirements

• You have kept AI-native solutions running in production, in customer environments where uptime, data boundaries and contractual SLAs are strict.
• You have worked hands-on with LLM-based systems, agentic workflows and distributed architectures.
• You have deep experience in observability, incident management and production reliability in cloud environments.
• You can spot drift in agentic application behavior before it turns into a customer escalation.
• You have operated in regulated or enterprise settings where compliance, security posture and operational governance are required.
• You can turn your experience into standards, playbooks and repeatable processes.
• You work well across delivery squads, engineering and platform teams, and customers or external partners, and you can hold your position with senior architects.
• Skills the role calls for include agentic AI in daily practice, AI adoption, quality assurance of AI output, context engineering, AI-assisted automation and prototyping, learning quickly, collaboration, solving complex problems, creative thinking, clear communication, agentic orchestration, agentic engineering, application security, cloud architecture, and building evaluations and benchmarks.
