AI Platform Operations Engineer

Description

The company builds and runs the platforms that host all internal data engineering and agentic AI workloads.

The team is a squad of specialised FDEs placed across several scrum teams, working in the SAFe agile framework with strong technical leadership and mature engineering practice.

The role is a foundation for moving from owning single platform components to designing and running complete platform systems.

The company has been operating for more than 50 years and spans finance, procurement, HR, supply chain and customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of platform components and work with engineering, product, security and cloud operations teams.
• Understand how the components you own connect to the wider platform, including security, automation, observability, reliability and upstream and downstream dependencies.
• Spot risks and operational problems early, before they turn into incidents.
• Contribute to architecture and security discussions and own infrastructure components and platform-specific solutions.
• Deliver and review infrastructure as code.
• Support provisioning and troubleshooting.
• Help run business-critical AI and data workloads against defined SLAs.
• Apply a systematic approach to root-cause analysis and take part in system reviews, retrospectives, documentation, best practice work and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Strong grasp of infrastructure and cloud: TCP/IP, Linux, containers, virtualisation and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms. AWS is preferred; Azure or GCP are also welcome.
• Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation, ideally Terraform, to deliver and manage cloud services and environments.
• Hands-on CI/CD and software delivery automation with tools such as Jenkins and/or GitHub Actions, in agile product delivery.
• Demonstrable skill in system design, development and observability, building reliable, scalable and maintainable solutions.
• Solid understanding of security architecture and engineering, including building security principles and controls into system design.
• Strong Python and Bash programming and scripting, with a structured method for troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
• Proven technical support experience at L1, L2 and L3, with a service-first attitude and a focus on resolving issues effectively.
• Interest in and experience with AI-assisted and agentic engineering, including daily AI use.
• Plus: experience with Databricks, especially for cloud-based AI, data engineering or ML workloads.
