Responsibilities

  • Run and support SQL Server databases in the cloud, keeping them highly available, fast, secure and dependable.

  • Control database access, encryption and auditing to meet governance and compliance requirements.
  • Script and use infrastructure-as-code to automate routine administration and operational work.
  • Carry out upgrades, migrations, patching and lifecycle work with minimal impact on the business.
  • Take part in incident, problem and change processes and give expert support on production systems.
  • Work with architects, engineers and security specialists to design and improve database services and standards, assess new tools and practices, and write and maintain operational documentation, procedures and technical standards.

Requirements

  • Solid knowledge of Azure SQL Database, SQL Server on virtual machines and related cloud database services.
  • Deep skill in performance tuning, query optimisation, indexing and diagnosing complex database faults.
  • Hands-on experience with high availability and disaster recovery using AlwaysOn, plus backup and recovery for SQL Server and cloud databases.
  • Sound grasp of database security, including access management, encryption, auditing and compliance controls.
  • Experience with database monitoring, capacity planning and proactive performance management.
  • Ability to write T-SQL and automate work with PowerShell and other tools.
  • Experience with database migrations, upgrades, patching and lifecycle management.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and Git or similar source control.
  • Nice to have: knowledge of infrastructure as code and automation tools such as Terraform or similar.

Conditions

You must be fluent in written and spoken English.

You need strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a proactive approach.

You bring a positive, service-minded attitude and work well in a team.

You explain things clearly to both technical and non-technical people.

You hold a higher education degree (BSc and/or MSc) in computer science, software engineering or a related field.

Certifications: AZ-900 Azure Fundamentals and DP-300 Azure Database Administrator Associate are required.
