AI Full Stack Developer

Description

This is a full-time, regular Information Technology role in the Department of War (DoW) environment, with a minimum clearance of NACI needed to start.

You will design, build, and deploy end-to-end web applications that use Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) in a secure setting.

The work combines full-stack skills across frontend, backend APIs, and databases with building modern AI pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy secure web applications that use AI and LLMs.
• Build frontend interfaces, backend APIs, and databases as part of the full stack.
• Integrate modern AI pipelines into those applications.

Requirements

• Required: U.S. citizenship is required.
• Required: You must live in the Dayton, OH area.
• Required: Advanced Python skills and experience with API frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask, used to build core logic and link user interfaces to AI models.
• Required: Experience building clean, intuitive user interfaces with frameworks such as React or Vue, or with AI-focused libraries such as Streamlit, for chat interfaces and search dashboards.
• Required: Strong experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and vector databases such as pgvector, Milvus, or Chroma, for application data and AI-searchable embeddings.
• Required: Hands-on experience designing and building Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) workflows so the AI can securely search and cite internal documents.
• Required: Experience packaging applications with Docker or Podman and managing code with Git for stable deployment.
• Desired: Understanding of deploying containerized applications in restricted, disconnected, or IL5+ environments without active external cloud connections.
• Desired: Experience using the Hugging Face library and hub to evaluate, download, and run open-weight models such as Llama 3 or Mistral locally.
• Desired: Familiarity with model runtimes such as vLLM or llama.cpp and quantization formats such as GGUF, for running large models efficiently on standard DoD hardware.
• Desired: Familiarity with orchestration frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex for building complex AI agent workflows.
• Desired: Ability to add system guardrails that stop off-topic answers and reduce AI hallucinations in mission-support tools.

Conditions

The position is on-site in Wright Patterson AFB, OH.

The role is full time and regular, with up to 10% local travel.

Minimum clearance required to start is NACI.

Salary depends on factors such as location, Federal Government contract labor categories and wage rates, prior experience, skills, education, and certifications. The proposed range is $63,300-$129,700.
