Description

The Physical Engineering team is part of the Enterprise Verticals group. It is exploring how frontier AI can help people design, simulate and build physical products, with the aim of shorter development cycles, better product performance and more capable engineering teams.

The first focus is mechanical and electrical engineering. The team is building experiences inside ChatGPT and integrations with engineering software, to support engineers from early concepts through design, simulation and production preparation.

This is a small founding team inside the company that works directly with customers and closely with research, design and forward deployed engineers. The team learns by building, shipping products to users and using their feedback to decide what comes next.

The role is a founding full stack software engineer position. You will help define and build the product and technical base for this new vertical, spanning frontend experiences, backend services and integrations that bring AI into complex engineering work.

The role suits engineers who combine solid software fundamentals with product judgment and a sense for intuitive interfaces. You will work with engineers and design partners to find valuable problems, prototype answers and turn them into reliable products.

The team is especially interested in engineers who have built CAD, CAE, simulation or other engineering design software. You should be able to own work independently, decide with incomplete information and move between product details and system architecture.

The position offers a chance to shape a new product area from the start, with real influence over what gets built, how it works and how the team develops.

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship full stack AI products that help mechanical and electrical engineers with design and simulation work.
  • Take projects from customer discovery and prototyping through production launch and ongoing iteration.
  • Design interfaces that make complex engineering outputs easy to understand, inspect and refine.
  • Build backend services, APIs, plugins and integrations that connect the company models to engineering software.
  • Talk with customers to learn their engineering constraints, spot useful applications and turn specific needs into products that work for many users.
  • Work with research, design, platform and forward deployed engineering teams to bring new AI capabilities into real workflows.
  • Assess quality and reliability using customer feedback and product data, and confirm whether engineers are working better.
  • Help set up the technical foundations and engineering practices as the team grows.

Requirements

  • Have independently built and shipped substantial software products, owning both frontend and backend systems.
  • Have strong product instincts and UI judgment, especially for tools that make complex work simpler to understand and carry out.
  • Enjoy working with users and turning their needs into sound product and technical decisions.
  • Can take an ambiguous opportunity and turn it into a clear starting point and a working product.
  • Move quickly, make pragmatic trade-offs and remain responsible for quality after launch.
  • Pick up unfamiliar tools and domains fast and communicate clearly across disciplines.
  • Are excited about applying frontier AI to designing and developing physical products.
  • Relevant experience includes building CAD, CAE, simulation, electrical design or similar professional software.
  • Relevant experience includes building interactive tools for visual, spatial or technically complex workflows.
  • Relevant experience includes connecting engineering tools through APIs, plugins or extensions.
  • Relevant experience includes building AI-powered applications and evaluating how useful and reliable they are.
  • Relevant experience includes taking a product from concept to production as a founder or early engineer.
