AI Engineering - Assoc Software Engineer Internships - Summer 2027 (Bachelors)

Description

You will join as a full stack Associate Software Development Engineer intern and work alongside senior engineers. Your work covers the whole stack, from user interfaces through APIs and data storage to cloud infrastructure.

The team uses AI coding assistants to speed up delivery, so you will also check AI-generated output for correctness and security.

You will work with product managers, designers and peer engineers to build solutions that hold up under load and can grow.

Responsibilities

• Take features from design to deployment with guidance from your team, covering front-end work in React, Angular or Vue and back-end work with REST or GraphQL APIs and microservices.
• Join system design discussions, learn how the team weighs architectural trade-offs, and help shape data models, API contracts and cloud-native or persistence approaches for your project.
• Write thorough tests, follow coding standards, and review code, including AI-generated code, for security, performance and maintainability.
• Build, maintain and run automated test suites that check functionality and catch defects early.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code, learn to monitor production systems, and help respond to incidents, including incidents in AI-integrated components.
• Work with product managers, designers and platform teams to scope and ship features, write clear documentation, and explain trade-offs to both technical and non-technical people.

Requirements

• Minimum qualifications: you are currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, with a graduation date no earlier than May 2028.
• You can work full-time for a 12-week internship in either May to August or June to September 2027.
• You have used AI in your work or studies, or thought critically about it, for example by using AI tools, automating workflows, reading AI-driven insights, or assessing how AI affects your field.
• You have full-stack experience from coursework, personal projects, internships or hackathons, including front-end frameworks (React, Angular or Vue), back-end languages (Node.js, Python, Java or Go), databases, REST or GraphQL APIs, and a cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP). You are comfortable picking up new AI and ML tools.
• Preferred qualifications: you have some exposure to software architecture, API design, databases or distributed systems through classes or projects.
• Preferred qualifications: you write clean, secure, well-tested code and see code review as a way to improve quality.
• Preferred qualifications: you have used AI coding assistants such as Copilot, Cursor or Codeium, or LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic or open-weight models, to build features, and you know to review AI-generated code closely for correctness and security.
• Preferred qualifications: you can split requirements into concrete tasks and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Conditions

Full-time internship of 12 weeks, running May to August or June to September 2027.

The role is open in several locations, including Santa Clara, CA, San Diego, CA, Kirkland, WA and West Palm Beach, FL, as well as other areas. The team will set the work location based on its growth plans.
