ABAP Developer

Description

This full-time, regular role sits on a federal contract. The company implements, supports and maintains a mission-critical SAP S/4HANA system for transportation and logistics at the Department of Defense.

The team covers planning, procurement, fulfillment, financials, application development and technical operations, including security, GRC and identity and access management, all within the JTMS environment.

The team is starting a new SAP development effort and is hiring an ABAP developer to join it.

The role calls for deep ABAP expertise and prior work supporting USTRANSCOM transportation operations, systems or programs.

Responsibilities

• Write, test, debug, deploy, maintain and document ABAP code for RICEFW objects: reports, interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms and workflows.
• Improve, enhance and provide operations and maintenance support for ABAP applications that handle financial and business management across S/4HANA, ECC, CRM, SRM and TMS.
• Help analyze the customer's business processes, confirm requirements and scope, propose process changes, and support level-of-effort estimates when needed.
• Write and update SAP design and technical specifications, and run unit, integration and release tests to confirm functionality.
• Support end-user acceptance testing and take part in production operations and release management.
• Build modern user interfaces that follow the SAP Fiori application architecture, using templates such as Worklist and Master-Detail, along with Smart Controls, Dynamic UI Content, Smart Templates, Fragments and Themes.
• Implement transactional, factsheet and analytical Fiori apps, and extend standard apps through the enhancement framework.
• Design and model OData services with the Gateway Service Builder.
• Deploy applications into the existing Launchpad environment.
• Ensure SAP ABAP work fits DoD transportation doctrine, regulatory requirements (DTR, DoD FMR) and Clean Core principles, while supporting complex integrations across DoD and commercial transportation ecosystems.

Requirements

• Active DoD Secret clearance.
• 10+ years of development experience, including 5+ years in SAP ABAP.
• Demonstrated experience building, maintaining and supporting applications on SAP ECC 6.0 or later, S/4HANA and other IT systems.
• Deep expertise in SAP ABAP development.
• Strong knowledge of standard SAP functionality built with ABAP Objects and newer SAP technologies, plus the ABAP Data Dictionary and other repository objects.
• Hands-on work in the NetWeaver ABAP stack: ABAP Objects, reports, online transactions, Webdynpro, BOPF, backend OData services, user exits, BADIs and batch programming.
• Experience with SAP interfacing technologies: BAPI, ALE, IDocs, PI, SOAP, XML, web services, proxies, APIs and REST.
• Experience with UI5 and related tools such as HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, VS Code and Eclipse.
• Experience with S/4HANA data modeling and performance: HANA Studio, ADT, HANA performance guidelines, AMDP, code pushdown, CDS views, Native SQL, ABAP Core Data Services, database procedures, text search, ALV on HANA and HANA Live models.
• Knowledge of the ABAP RESTful Programming Model for S/4HANA.
• Expert troubleshooting, debugging and problem analysis skills.
• A high degree of initiative, creativity and technical ability to work effectively on the team.
• Solid communication skills at every organizational level.
• Prior experience supporting USTRANSCOM transportation operations, systems or programs.
• Desired: prior experience with JTMS or similar DoD logistics modernization programs.
• Desired: knowledge of the Agile methodology.
• Preferred: experience implementing S/4HANA.
• Plus: experience designing and building modern UI5 or Fiori-style front ends using SAP libraries and techniques.
• Desired: SAP certification in ABAP development and maintenance, or in UI5 or Fiori design and development.

Conditions

Full-time position for a regular employee.

Minimum Secret clearance required to start.

Travel up to 10%, local only.

Proposed salary range is $90,300-$189,600.

Final pay depends on factors including location, federal contract labor categories and wage rates, relevant experience, specific skills, education and certifications.
