The team is strengthening its innovation and product development work and is looking for a Technology Innovation/SW Product Engineer to make a hands-on contribution to new defense products. The role suits someone curious about technology who likes building and can turn new ideas into concrete results.

You will explore, integrate and apply new technologies to build new products and capabilities for defense. You grasp new technologies quickly, combine systems and technical components, and turn Proof of Concepts (PoCs) into demonstrators and/or Minimal Viable Products (MVPs).

You work well alone on software tasks and also with stakeholders to shape the move from prototype to production-ready solutions. You make sound technical calls under time pressure and support iterative development that delivers value quickly.

Responsibilities

• Build software yourself and turn PoCs into demonstrators and/or MVPs.
• Write new software from scratch and change existing codebases on your own.
• Develop in Java, and be willing to use other languages, tools and frameworks when the work calls for them.
• Join different technologies, systems and software components into working end-to-end solutions.
• Quickly assess new technologies and decide how they fit into product development and innovation.
• Learn how different technologies interact and get them to work well together.
• Solve technical problems practically and hands-on.
• Advise stakeholders on the path from prototype to production-ready solutions.
• Keep a system-level view of architecture, dependencies and integration effects.
• Support technical decisions where speed, uncertainty and delivery pressure are high.
• Help deliver iteratively to get value out quickly.
• Turn technology choices into business value, and explain why something should be built and who it is for.

Requirements

• A BSc or MSc in a technical field, ideally Computer Science, Software Engineering, Embedded Systems or Electrical Engineering.
• A practical engineering mindset and a strong interest in innovation and product development.
• Comfort in high-tech settings where technology, integration and delivery meet.
• Analytical skills and the ability to make technical complexity into workable, valuable solutions.
• Ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly.
• Experience combining multiple technologies and systems into functional solutions.
• Strong hands-on software engineering skills.
• Ability to build new software and modify existing solutions on your own.
• Experience with Java, and openness to multiple programming languages and frameworks.
• Strong practical problem-solving skills.
• Experience with technology integration, or a clear affinity for it.
• Ability to learn and work with API integrations, legacy environments, third-party solutions and Linux.
• Strong adaptability to new technology.
• System-level thinking.
• Strong communication skills for talking with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• A good mix of technology insight, business awareness and product thinking.
