Description

You will join the R&D team as a Systems Engineer, as market growth has created the need. The team builds new RF technologies and improves existing ones, and it has a start-up feel inside a larger group.

You will connect clients with engineers across hardware, software, signal processing and end applications, turning ambitious ideas into working systems while keeping fast-moving projects on schedule.

Projects change often, deadlines are tight, and some work responds to changes in the global situation. You will help develop and deploy SDR solutions from requirements gathering through to final delivery, with a focus on systems-level design, integration, RF chain performance and real-time communication protocols. You will work with cross-functional teams to build resilient, flexible, mission-critical systems.

This role requires eligibility to obtain UK SC security clearance. If you do not meet every requirement, the company offers customised development to support your growth.

Responsibilities

  • Work with domain experts and customers to define user requirements, then manage and maintain system architecture and system models for SDR-based platforms.
  • Integrate and validate RF front-ends, FPGAs and real-time software stacks.
  • Carry out performance analysis and trade studies covering modulation, coding and protocol layers.
  • Support waveform development and integration across several SDR platforms.
  • Lead system-level troubleshooting, root cause analysis and optimisation.
  • Keep up with developments in SDR frameworks such as GNU Radio and REDHAWK, and with industry standards.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with SDR platforms, ideally across the full path from requirements gathering to delivery.
  • A solid grasp of RF or SATCOM systems, signal processing and digital communications theory.
  • Proficiency in scripting and programming in Python, C++ or embedded C.
  • Experience with system-level requirements, integration and validation.

Conditions

Full-time, permanent position.

Occasional travel within the UK.

The standard week is 37 hours. You can work hybrid, with flexible hours around core hours.

There are no core hours on Friday afternoons. You may use this flexibility as you see fit, as long as you complete your contracted hours and meet business needs such as urgent deadlines or client requirements.

Part-time and other flexible arrangements are available. Discuss the flexibility you need at interview.

The company is committed to an inclusive workplace and welcomes applications regardless of background, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation or religion.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary, annual profit share, contributory pension and share options.
  • Car leasing scheme, free onsite parking, a tax-free technology scheme and discounted shopping, among other perks.
  • Up to 2 additional days per month as TOIL.
  • A personalised development plan, unlimited access to over 10,000 e-learning courses, and internal mobility including international opportunities.
  • Wellbeing benefits including 24/7 online GP and mental health support, plus an Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Discounted family health, dental and eye test cover, a cycle-to-work scheme, an on-site canteen and coffee shop, and lunchtime pilates.
  • Life assurance, enhanced parental pay of 23 weeks at 100% pay, and adoption, shared parental and caregiving leave.
  • A wellbeing room, a multi-faith room, and employee representative groups covering gender, LGBTQ+, international, generational, disability, social and cultural diversity, and neurodiversity.
